Despite the authentic food, do not be fooled when you dine at Des Alpes Restaurant – you are in Mitchelton, Australia not the Swiss Alps. This is a great place to head with family and friends if you want to try Swiss, German and French dishes. Try the signature fondues and crepes, you will not regret it. There is also a vegetarian menu available for those who enjoy their meals meat free. Meanwhile, the atmosphere is homely and cosy, the perfect place to head on a cold winter's night. Having said that the food will have you returning throughout all seasons.

Swiss couple Herbert and Monika Nick opened this piece of little Switzerland 14 years ago and diners keep coming back for the homemade food and hearty welcome. Herbert (known as Nick), who runs the kitchen, is Swiss-trained and has worked across Europe, South Africa and Australia. The interior is true to the theme, with cowbells and cuckoo clocks. There’s a private dining room or outdoor dining available, and the fare includes the traditional Zurich dish of sliced veal with mushroom cream sauce and rosti potatoes. You’ll also find fondues, including a dreamy chocolate version. Wines come from across Australia, with a couple from Italy, Spain and France.
