Dougies is run by a bunch of us who had lots of fun backpacking around places of the world before, so we decided to start a hostel ourselves. We have the pretty relaxed atmosphere, without all of the formal procedures that some hostels have.  Our philosophy is "kick back and relax at Dougies".

    No ordinary backpackers!! Once I stepped into this tropical realm of mellow magic the relaxation, laughter and sense of belonging came easier than sunday mornings.

    The idyllic location of Dougies being a 2 min walk to a Bounty bar beach, 10 min walk into the quaint harbour town and easy as pie accessability to the nearby crystaline waters of Mossman Gorge all added to the wonder of Port Douglas.

    My visit to the Australian tropics was originally scheduled for one week however I was immediately spelbound and captivated for the following three months.

    The staff at Dougies are nothing short of sublime , they embrace each and every traveller with open arms and provide you with anything that you could possibly need. If you stay for a while you'll even get to meet some of the fantastic locals that frequent the Dougies bar.

    That's right, locals that opt for a backpackers bar because that's how good it is!

    To say that I will miss Dougies would be an understatement of galactical proportions but like so many fellow travellers before me...I'll be back!!!!
