Get a firm quote beforehand. I had a senior surgeon, an assistant surgeon plus another surgeon provided by the hospital and his fee for the anaesthesia was more than the three others combined.
The medicare rebate was $1242.40, my health fund paid $413.95, their account was for $5888.00, leaving me $4231.65 out of pocket.
How anybody can charge over three times the scheduled fee is beyond me. While I may agree that the medicare fee is a bit lower than it should be but he charged nearly $750.00 per hour.
