Same problem with a piece of chicken that was off. Not only I did not get a refund for the meat, but I got spoken rudely even though I was very calm and congenial.
I'll go to Thomas Dux instead, a couple of blocks away...
I find this placed overpriced for most items, and if they have cheap imported products you can usually pick these up cheaper at an Aldi or IGA. This supermarket is best used when you need a few items, not for a weekly shop.
I hadn't been to Duffy Brothers in a while and went to pick up a couple of things yesterday. What has happened to Duffy Brothers? It used to be pretty decent but now feels like a glorified 7-11. The shelves are bare and there isn't much of a range. Given the size and location of the store it has so much potential. Dont think I will be shopping here again unless I am desperate.
I have just had the most awful shopping experience here! I bought chicken that was disappointing. Avocados that were over ripe and rock solid and vegetables. The staff thought it was really hilarious when I returned the chicken. Management was no where in sight and when I did call and get hold of someone in charge it was handled badly. I will never return to this shop. The only rating this shop gets would be on location but that is about it!
I've given a whole star increase from my earlier review last year. They've lifted their game considerably. Shelves are fully stocked, and the quality of goods seems to have improved markedly.
A notable mention for their summer fruits this year. I've reliably purchased some really, really good stone fruits, berries, etc that have tasted fantastic. Much better quality than other supermarkets.
Interesting that a new IGA is opening just around the corner soon. I think they realise there will be a whole lot of new competition soon.
Meat selections are still fair at best. And steaks, etc are not great. But they have improved in this area too.
I still visit and buy some things here. Truth is, it's just too convenient to home to not do so. So, I'm glad things have turned a corner for the consumer. Worth another look.
I must admit that Duffy Bros did seem to go downhill for a while there but I have recently found that shopping there has been affordable, very pleasant and the variety has been much better. I don't know what they've done but whatever changes that have been made have resulted in the fact that I now shop there regularly and walk away with everything I need whether it be groceries, meat, fruit and veg and even cheeses and cold meats from their deli. Well done guys. I do encourage those that have found this store to be average in the past to go back and check it out now as I was quite impressed.
Like the last reviewer I've found the quality, range and attitude all in serious decline in the last year or so. I find it really hard to even justify a visit just to pick up one or two things that I may have run out of or forgotten from elsewhere. I certainly wouldn't do a full shop here.
Often there are completely bare and empty shelves. At other times there's a strange assortment of products you'd normally expect to appear on Aldi shelves (you know, the knock off brands with slightly familiar packaging but weird names from some far flung Euro country) - except at this place, they're not at the keen prices like you find at Aldi - they all seem to be at a premium price.
On top of that, there's always discounted items that are approaching there useby dates.
The meat offerings are very poor. I don't find it very fresh, it's not particularly well priced, and the steaks.... OMG... they are so disappointing.
The meat has constantly got reduced stickers on it, as they are regularly very near the useby date. This is the only positive I can find, as I now only visit this store as a cheap source of meat & poultry to keep the dog well fed.
Really getting sick of the lack of variety in this supermarket. Lately their business model appears to revolve around bulk buying products that have almost expired. I make sure to check the date on everything I buy here. There are some products on the shelves months past their expiry date. It was fine about 6 months ago but now the place is going downhill fast, and I am seriously considering starting to make the hike to one of the major supermarket chains if things don't change soon.
Completely agree with this comment. Duffy Bros has gone completely downhill the past year. The shelves are frequently empty of basic items or stocked with cheap not known brands. My local convenience store is better stocked. As a local resident who has shopped there for years, I'm fed up. I've had to return rotten meat on a couple of occasions and would have no hesitation on reporting Duffy Bros to the NSW Food Authority. If you are a supermarket operator, please buy out the current operator. This store is an absolute goldmine if it was done right.
Surprisingly large grocery shopping location. Doesn't look much from the outside and is tucked away off the street, but once inside - there's most everything you could want. Lots of fresh fruit and veges of good quality, and a number of specialist food options as well like organic varieties etc. Whether you need to do the weeks shopping, or pickup some extra bits and bobs after work, you'll find what you need here. Staff are always friendly too.
I like Duffy's. Its recently had a refit and expanded so the range is pretty good. They have a good selection of fruit and vegetables and I like their pre-prepared meals for 1-2 people - ideal for when you want to prepare something quick and easy but not be left with too much food that ends up in the rubbish. Friendly service, not the cheapeast but popular with urban professionals.
