Duke Of Gloucester Hotel

Directions
The Duke of Gloucester Hotel in Randwick has managed to avoid the surgeon's knife and retain its classic corner pub feel. With the original tiles and signage gracing this pub's exterior, you cannot help but feel transported to a time when pubs were homely rather than chic. The bistro area enables patrons to order a salad or one of this establishment's infamous steaks. A beer garden out the back is the perfect place to relax and unwind on a Friday afternoon.

If you can't buy beer at a TAB then go to The DOG. Their reverse marketing has transformed a great looking pub into a TAB. The new decor, including the conspicuous air conditioning ducting, in the main bar area has transformed a previous great pub atmosphere so that there is all the ambiance of a chemistry lab or a warehouse. Plasma screen with no sound. Two for one food orders are good, though their advertised claim that you can cook it yourself is a con: "Sorry but the BBQ isn't working" is their everyday excuse. So you have to pay $6 extra. I offered to cook my own in the kitchen, but they refused. Some of their bar staff are uninterested. "How may I help you' is replaced by 'You're right?' or 'What can I get you? Hardly anyone goes upstairs, because there's no bar up there. This is just another example of a once great suburban pub which has lost it's character. There are 30-40 pubs a week closing in the UK. It will happen in Australia soon.

I have been calling into the pub on a yearly basis for years now. Unfortunately nothing seems to have changed in recent years; unprofessional management, still there! Doggy beer quality, still there! Barely working outdoor heating still there!
Here's the bonus though, when we were just getting into the swing of things we were told to "QUIETEN IT". But they did one thing good for us, they closed the pub early (9.45pm last drinks) and forced our group to much more pleasant surroundings. One star!

Easy going atmosphere and friendly staff this place is good for a bit of pool and a couple of beers with the boys. Can be a little hard to get to and from as it's kind of in between everywhere.

Great pub, has a few different rooms so something for everyone. Pool rooms upstairs, abr and restaurant downstairs.
Their claim of best steaks in sydney is a bit far fetched though, they are average at best.
Good place for a quiet drink more than anything, nice to sit out on the balcony on a sunny day.

Trivia is good here but runs way too late on a wednesday night. Food is good but overpriced for the style of pub.

Nice pub for a bit of pool and a drink on the balcony. Nothing flash inside but nice atmosphere and very comfortable for an afternoon or night out.
