Where I have stayed in places like New York, Vegas, Thailand, Sydney, Melbourne, England, France and have experienced what "5 Star" actually means, I have to rate the Duxton as below average because it is simply not 5 star and simply not worth the money.
I stayed in a club room, which was about $600 for the night. The pictures did NOT reflect what the room actually was. The pictures give you the impression that you get a much bigger room but I can't see how it is any different in size to a regular Deluxe sized room at any other hotel.
Even though I paid the excruciatingly high price for the quality of the room, there's no effort made to "value add." I paid for my valet, and had to pay for breakfast. I had a holiday in Bali recently and paid $620 for flights and 7 nights accommodation at a 4 star hotel and got breakfast served daily. I paid $600 for one night at the Duxton and got an average room with a slightly bigger bathroom and that's it.
Won't be staying here again.
This hotel had 3 stars as its overall review from others who have viewed it before I submitted mine, if the Duxton Owners/managers care about their reputation, they should recognise this is simply not good enough for what is claimed to be a 5 Star Hotel-
Well let me tell you; you got ripped off I paid $324 for a twin room for a night and it's rated 3.5 star not 5, but I rate it 5!1 year ago

I had stayed here in a spa room.. was going okay until i went to use the hand dryer. it sparked and smoked in my dry hand. i dropped it and we rang about it and was moved to a room with no spa. apon calling again they said they couldnt do much but the reason we stayed was for the spa.. in the end we got the room back and promised not to use the hair dryer. so wasnt very impressed..
however the breakfast was fabulous :) wouldnt stay here again.. but may book in for breakfast one time. -

The Duxton, very sharp hotel, very good makeover from what i remember it being as the old tax building! I have had many clients stay there and they have all had a very relaxing and comfortable stay. The food is always good but service could be a bit better. The rooms are all standard but spacious and most of all clean and inviting! -
