El Loco at the House

El Loco at the House will make you loco!

Throughout January (4-28), your favourite Surry Hills Mexican cantina is coming to the iconic Sydney Opera House. Officially the best view in this great barren land, we invite you to taste tacos and tipple tequila whilst admiring the harbour views, El Loco style.

A special menu will be on offer including the famed secret taco, a breakfast taco and we're also catering for the little ones with a kids food & drink menu. El Loco at the House will be your cheap eatery staple serving up breakfast tacos from 10am. Open until late all month long offering slushies, home-made lemonade and of course El Loco margaritas and Coronas.

Though I'm not usually a fan of Mexican food, I'm quite liking the taco craze Sydney has been going through. I love El Loco and Mexico in Surry Hills, so I was excited to hear that El Loco was opening a pop up restaurant/bar at the Opera House broadwalk over summer.

I arranged to meet some friends here on a Friday evening, knowing full well that it would be packed. Even then, the crowds surprised me. Merivale have quite a large area set up for the pop up restaurant, but almost every inch of it was packed by 6pm on Friday.

The line for beers moved pretty quickly but it took a friend about half an hour to get to the counter at the other drinks line. Food came through really quickly once you got to the front and placed your order, but most tacos were pre-prepared so a lot of them were a little cold and soggy when we ate them. Our favourites were the secret tacos, which on the day was chicken gizzard I think.

It was a great night, despite the lack of seating (we just sat on the ground) and soggy tacos. With a beer in hand on a hot summer's day and a backdrop of the harbour bridge, you really can't go wrong.

Tip: the hotdogs don't get soggy and the quickest drink option is the bucket of beers.
