This was another 'find' for me, despite driving through Mitchelton regularly over the last few years. My son and I were coming back from an early evening movie and decided to buy dinner out rather than go home. We both wanted something different and had heard about a Mexican restaurant in Blackwood Street so thought we'd give it a go. We were both pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Service was great, the staff friendly and efficient, and the price was very affordable. We will definitely be returning with the rest of the family and think it's going to quickly become our favourite Mexican restaurant of choice.

I have always enjoyed going to El Taco with my husband and last Saturday was no exception. The staff are friendly and the food and service great and wont put a hole in your purse. In my opinion it is the best restaurant in Mitchie.

Was part of a party that was at El Taco tonight. A waiter spilt a drink on my friend. We ordered cheesecake and the cheesecake was so old it had red lumps in it. One of my friends specifically ordered a very hot coffee cause she was cold and the waitress gave it to her less than warm. Apparently nobody knows how to use the machine they said. But the worst thing was the food. It tasted disgusting and looked unappetising.

I have to admit, El Taco is probably the best restaurant in Brisbane in my opinion. I don't know how they do it. Perfect service, great food and briliant atmosphere. Im made to feel at home by the staff, who to be honest are priceless in my opnion and the food is brilliant and filling. Best Mexican period

Just moved to the area and was really keen to try this place, especially after I saw the rave reviews on this site. While I agree with the comments about the place itself (nice staff, atmosphere fine etc.) I TOTALLY disagree about the food and pricing comments; there are far better Mexican restaurants around the area. I had two vegetarian fajitas and it was like eating porridge in stale corn chips covered in store-bought sauce. My partner enjoyed his fair a little better, but also wouldn't rate much higher than me. All in all we paid $56 for two meals, a salad (which was mostly lettuce and dressing) and a coke; WAY over priced for the quality of the food. When you eat Mexican, you don't necessarily want to get your head blasted off by sheer spice, but you don't really want your taste buds to fall asleep either. Disappointing; somewhere I'll never eat again.

El Taco does not have fajitas of any description and never has for the last 33 years. This review is bogus. The prices are inaccurate and it is obviously malicious. Everybody knows this was written by a jealous competitor

Jeez Tim, just because I disagree with you it doesn't necessarily make me a competitor. As I said, I've just moved to the area, was excited as I really felt like Mexican on the night I went there, and was even more excited due to all the rave reviews on this site. And my apologies, what I ate may not have been fajitas, they may have actually been enchiladas or similar; I wrote this review a few days after I went and I don't have a perfect memory. And I'm in no way trying to be malicious here, in fact if you actually read my review carefully you'll note that I did say some positive things about the place. I'm not trying to be unfair, I just want people to make a balanced judgment when deciding where to eat (which is, after all, why we go to websites such as this, isn't it?) Have you ever tried the vegetarian food there? This may be why we differ so much in opinions. I've never tried a meat dish there, so I can't comment on that, but what I ate was disappointing.

The greatest Mexican Restaurant everrrrrrrr. I love the place so much, go there every few days. Best Nachos on the planet! Trust me, try the 'Nachos Works', my fave. The nicest people you could meet work there and the food is perfect. What more could you want! I'll be back....tomorrow

Ive tried most Mexicans in Brisbane and El Taco has the best food by far. Takeaways are ready on time and whenever Ive dined, myself and my family have found the service and environment top notch. I can't speak more highly of the place. Proud to say I'm a regular!

El Taco has been going strong for 33 years. The oldest and most successful Mexican resraurant in Brisbane. All good, decent and hard working people love this restaurant. This is because it offers the best Mexican food and customer service in Brisbane, probably in Australia actually. If you want delicious meals and quicker than a flash service, visit my favourite restaurant El Taco. Mediocre and uneducated perhaps belong in a shopping centre eatery, but great people belong here.

My review below was my personal experience within this business which I believe is one of the sound objectives of TrueLocal. I live locally and have 4 other customers which have attended this restaurant tell there misfortunes with the same staff. Makes me wonder whether you are emotionally tied within this business.

I agree Tegan, best restaurant in Brisbane. The fact that's it's been going so long is testament to it's greatness. I love it!

I agree Orbital. I thought I made a fair comment above and I got shut down pretty harshly. If you say this place is any less than 'superb' you get called a competitor. (ARE there actually more Mexican places in Mitchelton?) How do all these people know the restaurant's been open for '33 years' anyhow? I have some favourite places I frequent, but I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of them!

Well what an experience. My Wife and I turned up on Saturday night approximately 6:30 PM. Menu looked fairly reasonable. Sat down inside and placed our order. An hour later and we had not even received entrees. We ended up having to order another 1/2 litre of sangria just to keep us entertained. Then all of the sudden someone comes from behind the kitchen and starts abusing two of the guests.. shouting "Go away - we don't want your kind here!" as they were leaving. I believed they had waited longer than us. I then went outside for a cigarette yep you guessed it still waiting and then the same staff member turned up outside and commenced abusing a seemingly nice young couple shouting abuse and all sorts.. The couple seemingly disturbed and upset ended up leaving. At this point they directed their attention to myself and commencing telling me where to "**** Off" immediately I went inside explained to my wife the unstable events and we proceeded to the waitress to pay for our Sangria. The Waitress had seen the events which took place and just said "Its ok don't worry about it" I recommended that the waitress should provide feedback to them that its probably not great customer practise to insult / abuse their customers for - and I am perfectly honest here - no apparent reason. Its now 8 pm... And we are starving.. Please don't go to this restaurant under any circumstances... not only is the service really bad but you are completely insulted within the experience. Driving off I could see them starting a fued with a third customer...

This review is utter nonsense. Obviously written by a competitor or disgruntled staff member. El Taco has being going strong for 33 years and I've been going there for half my life. The best mexican food and restaurant service in Brisbane, for sure.
