This is a great local cinema. The movie theatres themselves are a tad on the intimate side, and the screens are not the biggest, but they are certainly serviceable for viewing the average movie (eg. films that don't rely mainly on the effects of 3D such as Avatar, which really needs a large screen to be fully appreciated). The seats are comfy enough and the tickets have gone up in price since becoming an Events cinema, but it's worth the increase for the air conditioned comfort and Candy Bar variety! Now all you need for the perfect night out is for the Pzza Hut next door to renovate and re-open!
A few months back our friends suggested going to this Cinema as it is cheaper than your big chaing Event & Hoyts Cinemas and the location was near their place. Unfortunately I wish I coulld review better but we didn't have the best experience.
Pros: - cheaper admission prices. - comfortable seats - steeper incline within the cinema so you don't spend two hours looking at the back of someones head.
Cons: - no parking - on a Saturday night we drove around for at least 30 mins trying to find street parking. - one window selling movie tickets (first weekend for a blockbuster movie?) - It can be expected on a Saturday night that there are going to be teens that want to muck around, etc in the movie - but it is a bit much through the WHOLE movie. Unfortunately we were lucky enough to get stuck next to a group of idiots that laughed, swore, mucked around, etc through the whole movie. I know it is cheaper then, say, Greater Union but seriously we didn't pay to hear the tragedies of the modern teen life.(You are probably wondering why we didn't just move seats - believe me we wanted to but we were a group of 4 and the cinema was packed). - Further to above, I was even more shocked that not once did an usher or any staff come in to check at all. And the management..... Overall, its a shame because I remember takin my nieces and nephews before the renovations when the tickets were only $6.50. Yes, there were only two cinemas and the place was in need for a remodel but at least it had the family atmosphere.
I actually used to be an employee at Beverly Hills Cinemas- back when it was falling apart and it was only busy during school holidays.
However the recent refurbishments are absolutely incredible! Rather than only having 2 cinemas, there are 6. But the ticket prices have slightly increased from the infamous $6.50 'seasonal' price. The cinemas are fairly small, but it gives a very intimate viewing experience. Unfortunately, I now live out of area, but when I return to the South- this cinema is the one for me!
Its a long way from how the Beverly Hills Cinemas was in the 70's, back then they where a dive! In the 80's it became a family place when they where first renovated. Today its agreat place place to see a movie, They have 6 Cinemas and the sound and picture is brilliant!! There are some steep steps but the seats are very comfy!! A great Experence!!
Beverly Hills Cinema has been refurbished recently, and is now on par with the bigger cinema chains.
Being an independent cinema, I was expecting the experience to be less than that of a major cinema chain.
To begin with, the published session times on both the phone number and website I had been given on a flyer were wrong! However the ticket price was cheaper than Greater Union in Westfield Hurstville.
Once inside, I was pleasantly surprised that the candy bar prices were also cheaper, and they also had promotional movie cups.
Finally, the theatre size was smaller (not a bad thing) and the pitch of the cinema was steeper, meaning it was less likely that you'd be looking at the back of someone else's head.
I left the cinema feeling that I had found a good alternative to the major cinema chains.
The only other real downside is the location - it's not in the shopping centre and the parking is off-street around the corner.
