They have no idea whatsoever anything at all about customer service, how to run a business, or how to make any profit. We all know about these discount vouchers, that companies use making a loss to get known and positive goodwill (the voucher is so discounted already and 50% of that cost goes to the voucher company, so the restaurant makes a loss using them).

So we buy a voucher for a set seafood banquet for 2 people, bookings essential, we make our booking on a not-too-busy night. Then there are 3 of us this night, so if they have room, we want to take a 3rd person who will buy their own meal additionally.

We look at the menu online and checked availability, and the 3rd person who does not and can not eat any seafood at all, sees plenty of other choice on the a la carte menu. So the 3 of us go along to the restaurant.

We arrive, hand over our voucher, we are seated, handed menus, and when the staff returns, we say "us two will use the voucher for the banquet, the third person will order xxx entre, yyy main, zzz wine, and look at the desert options later". The staff says "no, if you two are having the banquet, which you have to on the voucher, then everyone wating with you MUST also order the banquet". We spent a good 10 minutes patiently explaining how "no, she does not and can not eat seafood, it's not as if it is a beffet where she will be swiping food off our plates, it is a set pre-paid banquet for us, and she is paying MORE for her meal than what we have paid in total for our 2 banquets". Absolute refusal to budge.

So I politely asked for the management please.
I just assumed management would have some common sense and come over and say no problem, but they started with the same answer!! So I explain to them "look, you accepted our booking for 2 people with the voucher for the banquet, if the 3rd person did not come along you would not be making any money off of us. We have brought for you an EXTRA customer buying a FULL meal and drinks at FULL non-discounted price, giving you a large profit margin from us." They STILL refused, saying no - if we are sitting at the same table and one of us at the table has the banquet, everyone must have the banquet. No exception. As I said, it wasn't full, the table directly next to us was empty, so I slid over on the bench seat to the adjacent table and said "right then, those two at THAT table will have the banquet, I am ordering my a la carte meal thankyou". Of course they responded with "no... you can't do that, we know you are really together".

This past 20 minutes I was very calm, very patient with this , very quiet, but at that point my voice lost its quiet voice, and in a 3/4 full restaurant I demanded they hand the voucher back, and while the staff was retrieving it, I let the whole restaurant know exactly what kind of people they were, how they have no idea about how to make a profit, how to look after their customers, etc, etc, etc as the three of us made our way to the door, walked across the plaza and had a very enjoyable lovely meal elsewhere.

The thing is, had they any common sense whatsoever and served us, the seafood banquet would likely have been lovely for the 2 of us, the a la carte meal would likely have been lovely for the 3rd, we would likely have left very satisfied and writing a positive report instead and they would have made a decent profit.

We have done that several other times, gone to a restaurant with a voucher-for-two people and tagged a 3rd person on paying full price. I have often been the 3rd and paid MORE for my own meal than they both paid in total for their voucher, and the restaurant and us have always been happy (well, what do you do when there are 3 in a party to eat and vouchers are for 2, and 2 vouchers are for 4 people).

So instead, everyone else in the restaurant became aware of this, and whilst we've given glowing reports on other restaurants, we've told everyone about our treatment at Firefly. We eat out often in Lane Cove and in the plaza in particular, but none of us, none of our friends, none of our families, none of our facebook friends, none of our friends of friends, will ever ever go back to give that restaurant a cent of our money.

(Note, as soon as I told the voucher company what happened they gave us a full refund on the voucher, and said they will report it).

Can't go past 1/2 priced pizzas! The service is a bit hit s a miss sometimes- but I would give them a bit of consideration as the premise gets mighty busy.
The ambiance is really warm and relaxing. I treat this please like a second lounge room to chillax with friends. The mains are high quality and well presented- I recommend the warm lamb strip loin or the the chicken schnitzel, a side of zucchini fries and salt and pepper squid and you have a great night out.
The service can be slow and sometimes it's difficult to get a glass fo water- but overall I would come back! Especially on a Sunday night with the 1/2 price pizzas... Mushroom and truffle oil or the Prawn pizza!

I came here TWO nights in a row this weekend, which is pretty lame, I know. We came on Saturday night because we were keen on the share plates. Whilst we were there, we noticed that Firefly do half price pizzas on Sunday, so we came back on Sunday night to try out the pizza.

The food is generally good, but it isn't anything to write home about. The zucchini fries, truffle gnocchi, mushroom and truffle oil pizza and chilli and salt crumbed calamari were my favourites. I found the service pretty average, although it seemed to improve a little the second night we were there.

Parking is a breeze because of the Woolworths council carpark downstairs.

Food is great - $10 Gourmet Pizzas, Zucchini Fries and Sweet Potato chips are amazing! Great decor and location but very poor service on more than one occasion --> slow and unfriendly wait staff make you think twice before returning. Still try it for the food - but be sure you get a drink BEFORE you order your food!

Food was great, and the wine list is excellent. Good value, but service can be patchy, depending on how busy they are.
