Thoroughly awful. We went to this restaurant yesterday for a family celebration and, to a person, we were all extremely disappointed.

The entrees were insipid and 2 of the six mains were sent back to the kitchen. The fish and chips (which should be a signature dish at a place called 'the Fish Cafe') were initially sent back to the kitchen because the portion size was so meagre we thought they'd brought us the children's size, and after another piece of fish being added, they were over battered and claggy. The twice-cooked pork belly was too fatty because the fat hadn't been rendered properly and the seafood risotto was stingy with seafood and dry (and to add insult to injury cost a whopping $38!!)

The only reason this restaurant has been given one star is because of the horror and embarrassment of the kind and patient waitress and the fact that when paying the bill the restaurant did the right thing and took some money off for having been subjected to such appalling food. While it took the sting out of the experience, we won't be back and will be warning others to keep their money in their pockets.

    Go at your own peril....

I went here for some good old fashion fish and chips... service was terrible food was terrible... and prices where very high. (i paid $10 for a piece of fish that resembled the size of a gold fish.)
My friends where also more than unimpressed with the service and food they received, one of them sent their burger back to be remade as it was soggy (with water), a staff member was extremely rude to her... and poked the burger (after handling money) and said they thought it was fine (the customer should always be right), thankfully she insisted it be remade.... they then bought out all the burger ingredients wrapped separately for her to put together herself. I wish we had just walked up the road a little further for a pub lunch. I would suggest people avoid this establishment if they value good service or good food.

Over the weekend I found myself at Fish Cafe for breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday. I rollerblade down from Wynnum with my dog, so I have to sit outside. On both mornings I seated myself on one of the 5 outside dining tables and had enough time to get out my phone, take off my blades and tie up my dog, only to find that no staff approached me. On both mornings there were approximately 3 tables with people in them. The staff hovered around the payment area and did not look my way. After several minutes I got up and stood next to the 'wait to be seated' sign, only to be ignored some more, before finally making my way to the counter and requesting a menu. On the first morning a lovely staff member clearly felt embarassed by their lack of attention and spent the rest of my stay being very attentive. However, on the second morning I was told that where I was sitting was "hard to see" and that I should just wait. They then proceeded to take a very long time to take my order, cleared other peoples table around mine while ignoring me and delayed for 25 minutes in bringing me the bill. I have never considered leaving without paying a bill until that day. The food is horribly over priced and the staff are horrid. Do not go there.

As a take away store I was not happy. Both times have received our orders, the food is terrible for the price. Our last order of hand cut chips were so bad I took them back to the front counter, the person at front counter did not offer me anything in return or re-order as the chips were so soft and oily that they stuck together as a solid lump. So my wife and I walked out with our orders left behind. Disappointed as shop has so much potential from its location only!!

Worst take away fish and cjipe in a long time. Part of the orfer missing when opened, the chips we received were disgusting- they were only just warm and hard and dry and thepotato scallops were like cardboard - obviously again cooked a number of times before we arrived - oily, brittle and hard to chew. Lucky there are other options on the Esplanade

Absolutely beautiful fish and chips. Takeaway or eat in I think this place is potentially the best fish & chips on the Northern Beaches. Great to walk off the calories on the esplanade I think the staff are really great two.

Truly wonderful fresh fish and chips. Takeaway or eat on the deck or in the restaurant. A great place to take visitors to the bayside for a lazy weekend lunch.

Grab a cosy booth by a window or sit on the deck for a great view of Moreton Bay. The specialty here is the Stafford Net Boat Platter, served as a tower with tropical fruit, garden salad, sand crab, bugs, prawns, oysters, crumbed whiting, scallops and hand-cut chips. The wine list extends to sparkling shiraz and Bollinger. Mains average: $28.
