Flat White cafe really undersells itself with its name, hiding its food credentials under a bushel of coffee beans.
Or perhaps that's the intention. The small, modernist space under an art gallery in a premium part of Sydney real estate might be inundated if more people knew it was a great eating spot. The good thing is that because Flat White masquerades as a coffee shop, you can rock up at lunchtime on a Saturday and not have to wait (though the earlier the better) and even choose your seating. You have three options. There's a counter along the open windows with bar stools. Then there are stainless-steel-topped tables inside a streamlined space that narrows almost to a triangular point. Or, if the sun isn't beating down too fiercely, you can plonk yourself on the few stools that dot the narrow frontage. From here, you have a view of the popular Lord Dudley Hotel, a building adorned with fussy architectural furbelows in the "olde" English pub style.
