These comments are more so about Duke Bistro upstairs.

We booked dinner for a Tuesday night thinking it was going to be quieter and easier to get into than a Friday or Saturday night. As it turned out, Tuesdays seem to be a pretty popular dining option for people. We arrived at half 7, and half of the floor was filled.

Fact: The food here is interesting and tasty. Service is friendly, personable and knowing. Decor - great in terms of creating a real sense of somewhere else and a sense of occasion without being pretentious, cold and unfeeling. Made us want to stay longer.

The large group of 16 who came together after we arrived seemed to be getting served alot quicker than our table of 2. Waiting times between meals was a wee bit erratic. We waited 40 mins for the last dishes of our order to arrive and the waitress was very apologetic but even the table of 8 next to us seemed to be having better success. The pendant lights in the middle of the room were a bit harsh and the level they're hung can be in the when you sit up or down.

Upside? The place is definitely worth coming back to check out again.

Been hearing great things about this place for ages and it certainly lived up to expectations. Delicious hearty French food - think rich rabbit, pork, duck, lamb and fish dishes. Can recommend the cured king salmon for entree and crispy pork belly for main. The honey and lavendar parfait for dessert was pretty amazing, and they also gave us a free dessert, the almond tart, which was a very tasty surprise.

The service was fantastic and the wine list top notch. Prices very reasonable too. The only downside was that the place had really bad acoustics and was incredibly noisy (at least on the night we were there), but that's a small quibble. I'll definitely be back.

What a great surprise, gnochi is a stand out dish - beautifully light. Service is efficient and friendly. The place is intimate yet a little noisy Especially as this place seems very populate, packed on a recent Thursday night. The prices including the wine are very reasonable - definately going back sometime soon.

Gallic fare from a top chef will put this bistro on the favourites list.

I WONDER if anyone complains about Morgan McGlone's food. The chef-patron of this modern French bistro has a shaved head, some pretty serious arm tattoos and is built like a prop forward. Sturdy black-rimmed glasses don't match that fierce first impression and he moves around the open kitchen with calm, easy poetry. If he broke into song, I'd expect a Susan Boyle moment. To be honest, what's not to like at this dependable new local but you should expect the unexpected from McGlone. How many chefs could be on both MasterChef and Australia's Next Top Model? A decade ago, he was Luke Mangan's sous chef at Salt before his career detoured into photographer's assistant then model agent and scout. Now he's back to his first love, dishing up meals that would keep a clotheshorse fed for a month. Flinders Inn looks as though he's read the bistro rule book and copied it verbatim. It's almost a cliche but polished enough to get away with it, from a small comptoir (bar) to the reasonably p...
