Fook Yuen Seafood Restaurant

Directions
Fook Yuen in Chatswood is a very popular Chinese yum cha restaurant. It is good to get there early especially on weekends to avoid a long wait. In the evenings they specialise in live seafood that you can select from their numerous tanks. Fook Yuen can hold almost 500 patrons so when full the atmosphere is lively and frenetic.

The food isn't the best in Sydney but definitely above the average. The price is reasonable considered the good quality service. Will recommend it to friends.

To avoid the queues, your best bet is to come for an early lunch at 11am.
The yum cha is better than the frantic pace of Kam Fook in Westfield, with the quality of the steamed dishes being superb.
If you feel that something is missing, simply ask one of the trolley attendants. We asked a young lady once if there were any egg tarts, and she said that there weren't any at the moment. In fifteen minutes she returned, with a trayful of (still hot) egg tarts from the kitchen - fantastic!
Always leave here satisfied. Come almost every weekend!

The food here is quite good, but not the best I have had at a yum cha restaurant. If you dine here on a busy afternoon or night, the service may not be the best as the staff will be rushed off their feet. The food is a little pricey, especially since the quality isn't too great.

Excellent food for both Yum Cha and dinner menu.

Service can be variable depending on how busy it is, but generally good.

Food quality is very good, with authentic Chinese dishes.

Parking can be hard to find, and the restaurant car park fills up very quickly

The frustration of waiting in long queues on a busy day quickly dissipates with the prompt arrival of the food (Yum Cha). However, I think the quality has diminished over the past 18 months which is such a shame because they used to serve some of the best dumplings in Sydney.

One of the best Chinese Restaurants on the Northern side. Big menu and more variety than the usual Chinese. Very child friendly - don't go there if you have an aversion to children running around the restaurant.

The premier Chinese haunt on the northside.

The premier Chinese haunt on the northside does the time-honoured yum cha by day, seafood by night, so depending on the time of day you'll find small- and big-plate versions of its famous deep-fried squid with salt and pepper. The a la carte version is an excellent, if pricey ($28), choice: scored curls of squid body, plus tentacle fronds in crunchy clumps with a balanced hot and salty kick. General manager Kenny Lee says the chef's secret spicy salt mix also can be used with pork or fish fillets. I'm guessing it contains a hint of Sichuan pepper and perhaps a sprinkle of five spice (Sichuan pepper, star anise, clove, fennel and cassia bark).
