Awesome place to come on a Friday night! It's packed but it has a great vibe! The pizzas here are pretty good too.

First visit to this place for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Nice cosy ambience and 3 different seating areas - front of house with booth-styled seating, an 'inner sanctum' area with high thatched straw ceiling near the bar (where our group was) with high chairs and an atrium styled area - take your pick. Recently renovated and tasteful fittings - can tell there is a lot of Italian influence, though the venue name isn't.

The $10 Lunch menu selection is a definite plus and the place is buzzing with a crowd, perhaps due to this. A little disappointed with the seemingly large difference in value within the menu - a 'Half and Half' consisting of 2 slices of margharita pizza and small bowl of pasta bolognese - operative word is 'small' compared to a quite meaty and substantial Reuben sandwich served with generous amount of wavy chips. Asked for bottled water and they only had them in large (750mL) - non-sparkling/sparkling imported from Italy (read: expensive), thought they'd have a better offering from the looks of the extensive bar - a 250mL bottle perhaps. Glass of soft drink at $4 is reasonable.

The bar benchtop and tabletops are from oiled wood (newly renovated) which made them very tantalising for patrons to scratch some words of wisdom into them - perhaps a character that will develop over time with this venue's popularity.

Good service from staff. Would visit again.

Pretty happy after my lunchtime visit. A simple , but pleasing specials menu means you can walk out with an excellent feed for $10. The regular menu is significant, and still well priced as well.

Order at the bar is good for groups so there's no awkward bill splitting after your meal.

I had a chicken Parma which was tender, fresh and tasty. The crumbed breading could have been a tad crispier - but I'm probably just knit picking.

Beer was expensive. Pot of Heineken $8. Gosh! But that combined with a cheap lunch, I was still pretty happy.

Verdict. I'll go back. And bring friends. So, it works for me. Revamped version of the old pub with new energy, menu and staff. Recommend.

Has just been refurbed. Looks nice, but not that different to the last feel. Seems that the crowd has been re-energised though.

Haven't been to Forresters for 2 years and was very pleasantly surprised to see they've done it up. Feels like a Melbourne pub, which is great! Staff were very friendly. Gotta be one of the coolest pubs in Surry Hills, music good, food very good. Went in for one beer and ended up leaving 2 hours! Only pub I've been to that has a wall dedicated to Monster Children magazines!!!

My introduction to Forresters was with a friend of mine for our Friday lunch catch ups which included the $5 steak. That alone was a great reason to go and check it out.

As MrT points out the hotel has three areas, which are all pretty nicely laid out, except for the toilet, which is a rabbit warren to get to.

Be prepared to pay another $5 if you want anything else with your steak such as a sauce or vegetables.

Good quality food at a very reasonable price - the $7.50 steak I had would have been twice that at other pubs, and still not as well cooked.

The hotel has three areas: the internal bar area which has obviously been renovated but retains an older character, a small courtyard with table seating and a restaurant mezzanine area.

One minor quibble is that there was no sauce (mustard, ketchup etc) to go with the food - most pubs just have that next to the cutlery.

    Otherwise, well recommended.

What a great place for a huge steak, chips & salad after a huge day at the Test Cricket. It was a Monday evening so we got the $7.00 steak deal, which was cooked to perfection. Great beer, nice atmosphere. I shall be back when the cricket season kicks off again. We sat outside and the evening was perfect. Great pub..top food..friendly staff..what more can you ask for in a pub.

There seems to be no consistency in any thing they do here. One day the food is fantastic the next day it is dry and/or over-cooked. One day the service is great, the next day you are waiting over an hour for your food. If you have chance it, try the Spicey Chicken Buritto. Hopefully you get them on a good day. Dress warm for winter too as its freeeeeeeezing inside from every angle.
