One of my favourite pubs in Sydney. Nothing flash just a nice, dingy place to enjoy many a beer. Usually head there Fridays after work as it doesn't attract the suit crowd. Used to be kind of trendy but thankfully the so called hipster crowd has moved on too. There is an upstairs section but I rarely venture up there.

My local- this place is cosy and an easy place to make friends with german tourists. The beers are cheap, the seating comfortable and the staff hilarious. The feel of the place is always happy, and I always have an enjoyable evening/early morning when I come here.

Like the Hollywood, the Gaslight Inn is one of the best pubs in Surry Hills. While it might not cater for everyone's taste, its a great place to go for a relaxed drink without any pretentious types lurking about.

This pub gets super packed, and is really pretty standard.

Hated this pub, not only was it packed, the bar was dodgy. It is slightly slanted and when you leave your drinks at the edge, it slips off the bar. Its such a scam to make people buy more drinks.

The slanted edge of the bar you refer to is clearly not for placing drinks. In all my time I have never seen such a thing done. So, if it is a scam on the part of the pub to get you to buy more drinks, it's not working very well and they should probably think of a better scam.

Cheap drinks, and they'll only throw you out if you dance on the bar!

Drinks are cheap, you can usually get a seat, the music is descent. I like to get a drink here before dinner with friends.

Over very many years The Gaslight has had many phases in its life. Many years ago it was a fairly standard pub that could occasionally get rough or rowdy. More recently it became the place for the "cool Kids" wearing black stovepipes to hang out and would get so packed on a Friday night you couldn't move.
Now the no smoking laws have come it seems to get a few less people in there. It's always a nice place to drink during the day, especially sundays and there's also an upstairs which is quite nice and can be used for private parties.

The house cabernet merlot was smooth and inoffensive, much like the passing physiotherapist who offered a complimentary back adjustment.

Sometimes you don't choose a pub, it chooses you. This happens when it's late and everywhere else seems to be closing; when the main criteria is that it's not too far away, the glasses are clean and the drinks are wet. On this particular Thursday night, this means Darlinghurst's Gaslight Inn. Tucked off Oxford Street, there are two levels to the pub, including a small beer garden upstairs. As it's raining and cold, a friend and I opt for the main bar with its forgiving lighting and view onto Crown Street. The bar staff are relaxed and friendly when we order an opening wine. So relaxed and friendly, they return with the wine without first asking what we wanted. But it seems they knew: the house cabernet merlot was smooth and inoffensive, much like the passing physiotherapist who offered a complimentary back adjustment. Round two, Pimms and lemonade and a gin and tonic are served cold in tall glasses, accompanied by the only pub staple that predates chicken schnitzel - a b...
