The Gorge Restaurant is definitely one of our favourites in Launceston. It's a beautiful setting, particularly during summer (as you've got longer daylight hours). Your kids will love the peacocks strolling around. If you've got time, walk up through the Gorge, and enjoy one of Launceston's finest attractions.
It's not the easiest restaurant in the world to get to, especially if you have trouble walking.
The food is always fantastic, and the service is very friendly and of a high standard as well.
It's not cheap (go to Fitzies if you want that!!) - I'd say it's mid range pricing, but you DO get what you pay for. The best time to go is actually during winter, as they have a Winter Special, usually three courses (of selected menu items). There's definitely more expensive places around town, but the Gorge's food is right up there with them.
This is certainly worth a visit because of its situation, on the beautiful Tasmanian Cataract Gorge. Have visited twice now when in Tasmania, twelve years apart, - and find it to be one of those places that one returns to, because it offers some of the prettiest scenery in the general Launceston city. Food is a little expensive, but all in all reasonable, when considering the view one gets to enjoy at the same time.
The food is excellent and it's location is great! The atmosphere is very good. We found it to be very warm and cosy but at the same time discovered it to be rather expensive.
Acces for people with disabilities maybe a little harder.
Worth a visit, although it is not cheap! Enjoy!
