Meat and alcohol are replaced by Taoism, healthy dishes and vibrant tastes at this St Leonards haven.
My blood pressure is perfect, my GP told me last week. I'm still waiting for the results of my cholesterol test to discover the cumulative impact of dining out about 250 times in the past 12 months. I was needing respite when a colleague recommended Green Gourmet, a Chinese vegan restaurant that began in Newtown and now has a branch on the highway in St Leonards. He's a coeliac (wheat intolerant) and the menu denotes wheat-free dishes. It also avoids cooking with onions, garlic and leek, which apparently do naughty things to the body, including provoking lust, as explained at the back of the seven-page menu. Green Gourmet's Taoist approach eschews alcohol, too, with a range of green and herbal teas instead. Oriental Beauty ($4.20 a pot), a Taiwanese blend of oolong and rose, suffices.
