Green Palace in Newtown is an entirely vegan Thai restaurant. Chef and owner Kenjji Silanuluck began cooking Thai vegan cuisine for Buddhists around Sydney and has continued ever since. There are plenty of meat substitute dishes featuring soy, mushrooms and gluten for example the crispy "duck" with chilli, lime and cucumber salad which looks and tastes entirely realistic.

    This place is amazing! I've only ever eating from the pre-made section and MY GOODNESS it is good! And the best part is that EVERYTHING is vegan! They also mark the options that contain gluten, which is great if you're intolerant/allergic. They have chopped chillis in oil on the bench that you can help yourself to, for no extra charge, which is excellent if you like a little more spice to your food. They also sell fresh young coconuts and some vegan deserts. The only improvement I could think of would be a lunch special, as prices are the same all day. However, at $10.50 for a big plate of vegan thai food, I can't really complain :)

    These guys are great. I love the satay chicken skewers.. And guess what?? They allow BYO wine AND BEER!! That is always a winner if you want to get a group of mates together and get tipsy with dinner without having to spend tons on alcahol.. Nice. I think the main chef may have changed in the last 6 months as some dishes haven't been quite as good the last few times I've gone.. But, I still love this cool little restaurant ;)

    A friend told me about this place - i dont eat meat for animal rights reasons but i still crave it! so the duck and other "i cant believe its not meat" dishes are great!! Agreed the dishes are a little lukewarm but i always get take away so i heat it up at home anyway!

    the thai "fish" cakes are fab!

    I used to love going to Green Palace thai. Mainly because their lovely duck dish kept me coming back. This was until one night recently when my boyfriend and I went for dinner. We went to sit down and I decided that I wanted the duck anyway, which is kept in their takeaway bain marie - he ordered something off the menu and we picked entrees. Instead of cooking my meal up front or waiting for the meals to come out together they brought out my duck immediately before even the entrees! When I bit in, I was surprised of course - my meal was cold. Hardly even warm and definitely inedible. I asked them to cook me something new and instead they told me they'd microwave it, which I didn't like considering I was out for a 'nice dinner'. They agreed to cook it fresh for me but then went into the kitchen and microwaved the dish!

    I didn't like this whole experience but I've given it another try or two since and still the 'cold food' thing has prevailed.. The food is always lukewarm.

    I don't think a week has gone by since Green Palace opened that I haven't eaten there! What more could you ask for: everything is vegan, friendly and efficient service, fantastic food, fantastic prices...right in the heart of Newtown. The new layout also makes it feel more roomy and open. I love this place!
