Reviews of Guylian Belgian Chocolate Cafe

  • Beautiful location and the appearance of the cakes is the only good thing I can say about this place. Don't get the cake of the day or month, its just another way of saying the cake is going bad and not selling well. Horrible and slow service, crowded and expensive. I would not reccomend eating here, your better off getting a box of chocolate and sitting by the the water side.
  • The chocolates, cakes and milk shakes were good! The table service was generally fast and friendly. The only down fall is that it is a bit more expensive than your average cafe.

Utterly amazing selection and the hot chocolate menu is to die for. Unfortunately it can be a little crowded and hard to get a table but definitely worth visiting and you can always take away!

Chocolate at Circular Quay. Can't complain about that. They also serve beer, which is a good thing. Perhaps a bit pricey.

Despite the impressive view and location, I have to say that I was quite disappointed with this place. Their cakes looked amazing (for more cakes, their store in The Rocks has a larger variety), so I decided to treat myself to a cake and some tea. The cakes are already $12.50 for takeaway and it's a whopping $16 for eat-in. They don't even add ice cream/anything fancy with it, just a smear of raspberry couli on the plate. I had the 100% Pure Pleasure cake, which was described to be Belgian chocolate mousse with an almond panna cotta and a Guylian glaze. While the cake looked amazing, I'm not sure if it was worth $16! 3/4 of it was incredibly over-rich chocolate mousse and the panna cotta in the middle was about the size of a five cent coin.

To be honest, I think my chocolate mousse is better! Table service was incredibly slow and I saw them mess up other people's orders. Don't think I'll be coming here again.
  • The quality of their chocolate in mind, I visited the Guylian Cafe' expecting service and food parallelled to the likes of the Lindt Cafe' and Max Brenner. Unfortunately, I was disappointed - served cold waffles and watered down chocolate - I sent the first round back. The waffles weren't fresh and rather than a Belgium style waffle, they were the consistency of a filo pastry that disintegrated when cut. I left unsatisfied and with a complaint to the head office that was never returned - particularly with how expensive such food was, I expected value for money and delectable food. I would not recommend this to someone who was looking for hearty, comfort desserts that are worth the price.
