I don't mind the Hackney Hotel for a quiet drink, or a few on a Saturday night during football season and I've never really had any bad experiences that have been worth sharing, until Christmas this year.
This was the second time our family chose to spend our Christmas lunch at the Hackney Hotel, mostly as our grandparents are getting old and the traditional, cooking at home was getting squashy and a bit much for them.
Last year, the food orders were mixed up a fair bit but it didn't turn us away. This year, was a different story. We arrived for our booking at 1pm, with the mains finally coming out at 2.30pm. As the (not so jolly and festive staff) started to bring out the dishes (after we had followed them up to see how much longer it would be, given we were advised they they wrap things up at 3pm Christmas Day) the staff proceeded to tell us that they had infact ran out of the traditional ham and turkey - with my grandparents being the ones that were to miss out and if they could please order something else.

This would have been understandable I guess if 1. it wasn't the traditional menu item for Christmas Day and everything hadn't been prebooked and paid. They must have not accounted enough of the traditional food for all guests present in the hotel that day. and 2. if they had come out an hour beforehand to advise us that they were running more than an hour behind and also out of the food.

They then took another 30 minutes or so to bring out the dessert, a few of which were cold and forgotten.

I can't recommend the Hackney Hotel for Christmas or special occasions, as it was extremely disappointing even and put a real dampener on our big day.
