    In June this year my daughter called upon Home Tune to check her Lancer, which she thought was 'surging'.
    The 'mechanic' started the car, revved the engine, checked a spark plug and said the engine was 'stuffed'. The report states the car "Needs engine". He offered to fix the car privately "cheaper than the big places".
    The car was then left unused for some months while she tried to work out a way to get it replaced.
    In September I started the car and drove it 40km to my place without incident. I then had the car inspected and tuned by my regular mechanic. The only problem he found was that the spark plug leads caused an intermittent miss under load, so they were replaced. The engine has performed faultlessly since.
    My view, reinforced by my mechanic, is that the assessment made was shoddy, incorrect, and a waste of $77.00.
    Home Tune's website stresses that they guarantee their work, so I emailed them asking for a refund of the $77.00 charged for the Home Tune visit. So far none of my three emails have been answered.
    I contacted the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC), to find they are not members. Their advice was to contact Consumer Affairs.

    I dont know much about cars and was very impressed when I called Home Tune out to service my car. They showed me how things worked and what did or didnt need to be done, kept me informed about the service and cars condition and got my approval for the things that needed to be done. I really liked how the mechanic was careful and detailed. So glad that I called Home Tune to come to me and saved my time and money, compared to my previous services. Great job Home Tune. I highly recommend them!!!
