This place has a great history of good food & drink at a reasonable price, but has now overpriced itself for the market IMHO. Looking for the trendy crowd, so families less welcome (& at the prices that's not surprising). Probably the right place to be seen but not for me. It's just another pub.
Being a local I have eaten at the Crown Hotel on many occaisions & not until the last 6 months have I had any complaints. Upon my last visit with my family at the end of June, we were all deeply dissapointed & are now very reluctant to go back, among our complaints are : Being squashed onto a table where our plates & drinks only just fit. Served ribs that were so tough your dog would have trouble chewing them Chips served with the ribs had an aweful aftertaste that made you feel ill Dirty plates were left on the table after our meal was complete for a good 20minutes T.V. screens are placed around the dining room causing other diners to be continually staring at you & your food, making the whole experience extremely uncomfortable, honestly if you want to watch T.V. stay at home.
Being a true local I have eaten at the crown for years.. i have to admit that in the last 6months the food in particular has been nothing but excellent. I found the tables and service to be great.. I myself last saturday night went there to try the ribs that everyone has raving about.. I found it amazing and will be taking the whole family for a tariffic feast... You would have to be a complete whinging fool to put this fine establishment down
