Reviews of Hurricane's Grill & Bar

  • Ribs is a must get when you go here however make sure you book because the place fills up. Had a great time!
  • Good food with the ribs definitely the highlight but the wait can be unbelievable at times so make sure you have a booking on the busy nights. Nice spot on Darling harbour too with a view of the water.
  • Still a great place for ribs! I must admit after so many years of not eating hear, the place still has the best ribs in town. Not to mentioned the long ques. Only reason I won't give a 5 star.

Hurricanes Grill & Bar is probably where you want to go if you're after a protein packed meal - with a view.

I've been to Hurricanes in Harbourside 3 times now, and each time the food, service and experience has been totally consistent. It's a place to catch up with friends and family who don't judge you for using your fingers while eating and who don't mind sharing.

Last weekend I headed here again whilst running errands in Pyrmont with Mr N, found ourselves thinking of lunch options at 4pm. With a large feed in mind, Hurricanes seemed the best bet to settle the hunger. Whilst we were lucky enough to get a table without booking, it was only because we were there at 4pm on a Saturday, if you're looking for a table during peak hours, book or you'll be disappointed.

Our waiter gave us a table on the balcony outside overlooking the harbour - which was a nice surprise, before reciting the specials of the day. We ordered the rib eye (medium rare) and a rack of lamb ribs, with chips and side sauces to share. the food was served in about 20mins and had generous serving sizes.

Whilst Mr N believed the rib-eye was overcooked for medium rare, I enjoyed it more than the lamb ribs which were delicious but very fatty for my liking. The chips were crisp and tasty, however I wish you could pick a 'salad' options for your sides (you can currently only pick chips or baked potato). Everything else went down a treat and we retreated into a food coma. Whilst this restaurant is pretty solid all around, I'd only head here if I was in the area. Needless to say, I've never heard anything bad about it from anyone, yet.

Highlight: Consistent food, good for gatherings
Lowlight: Not exactly hip pocket friendly
  • delicious! A bit tight for space but doesn't take away from the flavour!!
  • Really, really, really, good ribs!

Hurricanes Grill & Bar has always been in our must-go list whenever we have people visiting from out of town or overseas, simply because of their famous pork ribs that never ceases to deliver every single time.

However, this doesnt come cheaply. Firstly, you would have to make reservation way in advance (perhaps 2 or 3 weeks prior) in order to secure yourself a seat, and that is only in weekdays as you cannot make reservations for weekends and you are pretty much left with an option of turning up really early and be at the front of the queue.

Even with reservation, you and all your guests are also required to be punctual with time, as they wont take you to your table unless everyone has arrived and accounted for. The maximum seating time during busy nights is 90 minutes, unless you happen to get the very last window (which is probably around 9pm).

The restaurant is very busy and crowded most of the time, with the outdoor seating area probably suit best for when you want to enjoy the Sydney view as well as the occasional fireworks.

You are assigned a particular staff to take your orders for that one seating, but it can be a challenge trying to locate the staff amongst this busy place, so make sure you prepare your order beforehand. The runners who deliver the food are also friendly and punctual, and the food does arrive quite quickly unless you require starters to come first.

They also have complimentary bread upon request, and the bread is fresh and delicious. Our order usually consists of chicken caesar salad, garlic mushroom, the must-try pork ribs (full rack to be shared for two people) and that is usually more than enough to stretch your eating capacity to the maximum.

Be very aware that this restaurant is not BYO for either cake for alcoholic drinks.

Having not been to Hurricanes but hearing the raves about the ribs we booked this for a work dinner. Unfortunately it was a bit more fast food that we realised - our own lack of education I guess. The food was great, but not the place for a longish dinner.
  • The best ribs in Bondi but they come at a price.
  • Love the Pork and Lamb ribs and the Caesar Salad, Good Service! A must to try.
