Let's get straight down to it. I love pavlova, have since I was a young thing and still now I'm an old thing, but I haven't particularly found it a dish which lends itself well to a restaurant setting. But, I've been proved wrong. Now for a bit of the back story...

Iceworks is a complex a short stroll from Suncorp Stadium with ample underground parking (Given Terrace is usually a nightmare). There is a bar (Dowse Bar), a formal restaurant (Peak Dining) and a more casual restaurant (Iceworks Restaurant Bar). I've reviewed the other two before, so I'll just focus on dessert here. We had had nibblies at Dowse and mains at Peak, so we decided to try Iceworks for dessert. The first thing I thought when we entered was "family friendly" and there was a group of young ones celebrating a birthday nearby. The seating and tables were better than a good cafe, while not as forml as a restaurant. The lighting was bright but not overly so and the menus were written funkily on glass blackboards on the wall, as well as on the menu.

The cheescake was unavailable that night due to a supplier snafu, so I decided on the pavlova, as did my dining companion. Oh my goodness. It was the best pavlova I've ever had. It was more of pavlova / fruit explosion. The balance between the tart and the sweet was just perfect. There wasn't an over abundance of any one of the parts of the dessert, but there was the pavlova and cream of course, but balanced with passionfruit sauce, strawberries, other berries a two or three mint leaves which just set the whole dish off.

Each mouthful until the end was heavenly. I'm not a big dessert eater at restaurants usually and sometimes I find that by the time I'm half way through a dessert I've had enough. Not on this occassion. I will be back for the pavlova again, I'm sure. The staff were friendly and just like the rest of the night, time flew by quickly, which is a sure sign of a good time.

I hadn't heard of Iceworks before we went, though obviously plenty of people had, judging by the happy crowd, ranging from young kids up to more formal types and young city dwellers inbetween. It was a great evening. Give it a go, even if it is just for the pav!
