This is a seriously adorable restaurant and if - like me - you like kitschy, old style restaurants with no bells or whistles but plenty of character and warmth, youll love it. It's decked out in the style of a traditional trattoria, with Italian music playing, rural Tuscan scenes on the walls and little vases of fake flowers on all the tables. The lady who runs the front of house (or did when I was there recently) is lovely and welcoming, and it feels like you're being served by your nonna, while the food tastes like it just came from your nonna's kitchen too. It's traditional Italian comfort food, nothing groundbreaking but good, hearty food. The vibe is pretty family-friendly and relaxed, being as it is in a quiet, suburban pocket of Leichhardt, but it still manages to be pretty bustling and busy. There's a cute little alfresco bit out the front too, where you can chill out to the Italian arias.

    Definatly our favourite Italian resturant!

We always choose Il pergolato for family birthdays, anniveraries and get togethers. The atmosphere is very relaxed and has a genuine italian feel about it. The staff are very friendly and always make you feel comfortable and welcome. The prices are very reasonable too!

The meals are just devine - certainly the best in Sydney's Italian Quarter Leichhardt.
Regardless of what you choose off the menu you'll be able to taste the richness of fresh ingredients and flavours, and whilst the portions are very generous your sure not to leave anything in your plate!! My personal fave is the "Marinara"

Definately one to put on the list!

went to il pergolato for my b'day...truly amazing atmosphere and food is great as well. outdoor patio in the back is a must. none of the pretentious crap that comes with some so-called top of the line Italian restaurants! a bit of Italy away from Italy!

Love the place... food is great and the service is just as good. Great place to take the family or friends to dinner... Can get busy but most times a nice place to have a quiet dinner and chill out!

While the food here is a little pricey, it is definitely worth it. The main meals are generous in size, and the food is very tasty. The ingredients are fresh, and the staff are friendly and attentive, especially if it is a quiet night. If it is busy, you may be waiting a while for your food, but it is definitely worth the wait. The steaks are cooked to perfection, and the veal is very tender and tasty.
