How often should I service my car?

On average it is advisable to have your vehicle serviced every 6 months or 10,000Klm whichever comes first.
Logbook service schedules are becoming wider apart by kilometres performed at best possible driving conditions. Good for car sales (Particularly fleet sales as it appears the vehicle shall not require service as frequently, not necessarily good for the vehicles sold as they still need to be regularly maintained.) 

So what is designated as best possible driving conditions?
*  Good warm up periods
*  Long travel distances
*  Very few stop starts.

Most vehicles in the city operate in what mechanics classify as extreme conditions.
*  Quick start
*  Drop the kids off to school and back home.
*  Quick trip to the shops
*  Stuck in peak hour traffic

The issue with this type of motoring is the lubricants designed to maintain engine efficiency often don�?�¢??t get to perform to their peak design specifications, which can lead to a blocking up of the galleys designed to lubricate the engine properly.
Also ignition and cooling systems are under more strain, causing inefficiencies in their correct operation.
It is recommended by the Lubricant and Parts manufacturers that to maintain best
performance standards the vehicles be serviced at 6 month or 10,000Klm intervals as this is the optimum design specification for vehicles doing city type motoring.
