I couldn't believe there was a line going out the door when we got there at about 6pm on a public holiday Monday. Normally, I wouldn't bother waiting in a line but I'd heard good things about this place and was keen to satisfy my curiosity. Curiosity paid off because in this case, less than a minute after we got in line, the staff called out for a group of 6 and we blitzed past the other hungry patrons waiting in line before us.
The dishes were cheap and definitely hit the spot. A friend who is a local ordered our dishes - salt and pepper squid, combination tofu hot pot, snake beans with minced pork, a battered fish dish with an egg sauce, stir-fried spinach and a prawn omelette. They were all great and fed 6 hungry hippos at $15 a head.
Call it cheap, call it cheerful, call it Chinese Kingsford. Don't expect a gourmet meal, but this place certainly hits the spot after a long relaxing swim at the beach... For fast and decent Chinese food- this is it. Priced at about $10 a dish you can't go wrong if you have the right expectations. Scramble egg with prawns, Peppered beef, long beans, tofu hot pot... all are served piping hot and come quickly after you order. Now, to set your expectations- think plastic chairs, plastic tables, little to no personal space... A great place to come with close friends for a satisfying meal.
The portions are a little small but when I looked at other tables there seemed to be a bit of inconsistentcy in the sizes- so I guess it is the draw of the day!
There are long lines here but if you are lucky you might just have exactly the amount of people they need to fill a table.
Service is ok, bordering on rude. One of their so called 'specialities' the Sang Tung chicken was nothing more than a plate full of bones and skin...there was no meat at all! Check under all the skin that they haven't just served you up a plate of bones with all meat removed. Definitely not value for money. Plenty of other options in the area that are alot more tasty.
One of the best Chinese restaurants out there. Very tasty foods and more importantly... It's cheap cheap cheap cheap cheap! Mains average from about $8 and the portions are more than reasonable for what you pay. Had a group of 10 guys last time i went. We ordered 5 dishes (3-4 serves of each dish), rice + drinks and ended up paying $7 each. Value for money! I'm loving it!
