--TrueLocal description--
Why trek to Munich when Sydney has its very own Bavarian beer hall in the historic Rocks precinct? This atmospheric basement bar is all about hearty Teutonic cuisine and a seemingly endless array of beers â?? available in one-litre steins for the brave. Upstairs, the Euro-styled Ã?berbar specialises in premium beers and European â??schnapptailsâ?? and is popular with the after-work crowd. Prost!

Was? Du sagst was? Wilkommen Lownebrau Keller, where of course, all things are German (in theory). Dieters might not be so happy here, the pork suckling and mashed potatoes and German sausages are delighftul for my (in) festive mood when I am up for it, but it's not a place to be shy. Also better in my mind to come in a group, more varieties of food to go around. Staff dress up in traditional gear, and the accompanying music ensures a loud and happy night. Yell for service if too difficult.. When I'm in the mood for German and cheer, I choose Lowenbrau.

I love it here for the vibe, but the service can definitely be patchy. Nevertheless, it's a fun place for schnitzels and a beer, or two, or four. I think the advantages are more of a theme restaurant - at least for me. Having had good German food in Munich and the like, the restaurant rates less on authenticity and top notch food, and more on a fun, boisterous, "German" theme outing - in my opinion. The music can be a bit loud, so choose your table carefully if you get a chance. Dieters need not apply, or apply with caution. Seriously, enjoy! Bon appetit.

'I need to see your I.D.' said the Security staff in an unfriendly tone. Really? It has been over a decade since someone asked me that. I realised they were just doing their job, but it still left me very annoyed.

My mood was immediately placated by the prompt and friendly service of a waiter with his European accent. For main, I ordered a haus specialty, crackling roasted pork belly. A generous portion of pork belly arrived with potatoes and red cabbage on the side. It was delicious! The meat was tender with the perfect crispy crackling. For dessert, I ordered apple strudel with fresh cream. Again yum - it was warm with tasty apple pieces.

The atmosphere is vibrant and festive with a live Oom-Pah band. It can be loud close to the stage, so not quite the place for any deep and meaningful conservations. Beyond the front door, the service was polite and efficient.

I highly recommend Lowenbrau for its food (especially meat lovers) and atmosphere. (just don't forget your I.D.)

What a treat.... whit a German background I was really looking forward to this. I was not disappointed whit the food and drinks they offer but I must say the traditional cloth the waiter was wearing is a bid of a cheap copy. The atmosphere however was nice and we enjoyed a little piece of Bavaria so far away....

This place is awesome and we go there every time we visit Sydney. Easy to get and great food, but most of all we love the atmosphere. The bar on the ground floor in the back has a traditional German appeal and of course you have a wide variety of beer to choose from. Can't recommend highly enough.

Good beer and good food. The staff are all dressed in traditional clothes, which just adds that little something to the experience. For those that love a good feast - this is the place to go.

I have never grown tired of visiting Lowenbrau. The food are just to die for (and this might mean literally when you get "for-2" specials with extra pork knuckle!) and the staff are more than friendly despite the crowd (which a lot of times can be very much under the influence of alcohol!). With plenty of outdoor, semi-outdoor and indoor seatings and the ability to book large tables, you can be sure that your next big night out is easy as one two three.

I love this place usually during the day especially for a sunday lunch or so. The food is quite nice and you would of course have to wash that down with a massive stein of their in house beer

This place is great for a good night out, great food, great atmosphere on a saturday, but need to book a week or so in advanced for a saturday as how packed it does get, the atmosphere is incredible, having a um pa pa band and the drinking games are great for a fun night out, they get the customers involved with cowbells and sing all old songs like aidelvice and such, the selection of beer and schnapps is the biggest i have seen this side of europe having over 30 different types of schnapps ranging from plum, mango, banana and cherry to chocolate, peppermint and butterscotch, if you looking for a great place for a function such as birthdays, receptions or anything of that type this place should be top of the list for the sheer atmosphere let alone the food and beverage. I am hoping to get a job in there serving behind the bar as soon as i have completed my course. Overall great experience, great food, great beverage.
