To state the obvious it can get crazy busy on Friday and Saturday nights. But the "Marly" is otherwise an awesome pub and turns up the sound on sport like NRL Monday night football. Comments below about the TAB being a key element seem dated, as both the pokies and TAB are well out of the way, and really don't interfere with anyone, or the mood of the pub.

Food is better than average, and though the staff seem to rotate a fair bit, I have never had a problem with the Marly, going back to the mid 90's when it was the hub of Student Uni politics - the place where budding political careers where forged.

The Marlborough Hotel or 'Marly Bar' as it is affectionately known has, in the past, been frequented by me and my friends at that hour of the evening (or should I say morning?) where everything else is closed and we are in need of cheesy dance tunes. The Marly is a bit of a Newtown institution and there is something comfortable about going there, like slipping on a pair of old slippers, to use a well-worn phrase (no pun intended). It is all a bit grubby around the front but they often have great cover bands playing and around the back is a little more sophisticated with cost seating areas and an outdoors dining area. We recently went upstairs early on a Friday evening and there was a nice crowd enjoying the afternoon sun on the balcony. The person serving behind the bar was great in recommending a nice white wine and while the bar can get a bit hectic (and slow) later in the evening, bar staff have always been friendly. Am sure I will be back there before too long!

i have always liked this place until i came across a very rude bar tender, even when i complained another staff member proceeded to yell at me across the bar! Not good service at all.

Big bar where I've spent quite a bit of my time during my travels through Newtown. Upstairs was renovated sometime ago but it was a renovation which didn't ruin the entire place. There's a bottle shop, plenty of bars so if you can't get your hands on a drink in this place you probably should stay home.

The Thursday comedy night is worth a visit for some cringe worthy comedy. The last act is always the best (and clearly the most experienced), but with a few good mates and beer flowing it is a worth while night out. I've not tried this place on another evening...there are better bars for the w/e.

Relaxed pub with friendly service and a good atmosphere. A nice selection of places to sit, as well.

Okay, can get a little dark inside. Upstairs renovations are cool.

Boring pub with too much focus on the TAB. Much better places to drink just down the road.
