Went for the lunch time special a few weeks ago and it couldn't really be beaten I had the chicken ceaser and my girl friend had the pasta. Not bad for the amount we paid.

We have been going to the Mighty for many years, have always enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere. But the last time we went we ordered fish and chips for our son and before he even cut his fish open the smell of the fish was overpowering (very odd fishy smell), he tasted it and said it tasted weird (coming from a child that eats most things) took it back to the counter and whereby we were told there's nothing wrong with it and thats how fish smells! FYI fresh fish doesnt smell like that! We were happy that we got our money back but slightly disappointed in the Manager later coming out and making a snide comment. As customers we have every right to get what we paid for and in this case didnt and when we complained - we were met with nothing but resistance and attitude. As I said we have been going there for years and its a shame that one persons inability to admit the possibility that in this case the customer was right - has lead to a pretty disappointing eating experience.

This is a fantastic family-friendly pub with reasonably-priced very good-quality meals. I recently celebrated a milestone there and took advantage of their function room. The staff are very professional and experienced in handling functions. They also had regular live entertainment suitable for people who are over the nightclub scene.

  • The Mighty Quinn

    Sunday, February 15, 2009

Tuesday is parma night at this Irish pub, so, in keeping with my eternal search for the perfect chicken parmigiana that doesn?t cost the earth, I set off with a fellow schnitzel lover. The Mighty Quinn is a typical pub-grub establishment, complete with varnished wooden chairs and tables, a scuffed parquetry floor, extraordinarily long bar, and a big screen in the corner. There?s a green carpeted dining section at the entrance, but otherwise it?s not immediately obvious that this place is linked to the Emerald Isle.

But we weren?t there for the decor, we were there for the food. Grabbing a couple of menus from the orders counter (there?s no table service), we were amused to see they were fashioned after a tabloid newspaper, with the cheeky title Mighty Quinn Daily Wipe. We ordered the Tuesday chicken parma special and decided to try another traditional fave, the beef and Guinness pie. Nothing was going to complement the meal better than a couple of Guinnesses, so we trotted back to the bar for some black medicine. With few punters around, being a Tuesday, the atmosphere was lacking but the bar service was speedy. Unfortunately, the food didn?t arrive so quickly. We had well and truly emptied our glasses before it did, but the wait was forgotten as we marvelled at the size of the parma, taking up a good half of the plate, as it should. The juicy schnitzel was tender and thick, not wafer-thin and cardboard tough as it can be elsewhere. And it had a delicious layer of bacon, salsa and well-melt...
