I required boarding and when I enquired the reception staff called me back and left a very lengthy and detailed message for me - they said that my cat would need a general check up before going in as part of their procedure (this is on top of showing all the vaccination records and prior vet checks)
I booked him in and was told by the vet that he may have some dental issues and needs a clean (ok fine.) then they dropped a bombshell that if they needed extractions it would be $850 for 1 tooth and $1100 for 2?!?! (For those wondering, they are not gold filled teeth!) wow talk about overpriced.. The clean deal is fantastic but then everything else is far too inflated!
He came back absolutely covered in fleas after the his boarding stay and then the reception staff decided to tell me that there was a $65 fee for the consultation that they never mentioned prior! Why should I pay for consultation when you forced me to have one? All my vet records were up to date as were the vaccinations, so basically it's $65 to give me a $1100 bill..
Needless to say, I didn't pay for it and they obviously knew that it was an unjustified charge as no one has called me to follow up.
I'm sure the Dr is a fantastic vet and great at what they does in general however when you make vet bills expensive it deters people from looking after their pets properly. I'm sure a lot more people would be inclined to take better care of their pets more regularly if your prices were affordable and reasonable.
It's no wonder not a lot of pets you see don't have good dental care as you mention on the website!
