I was really disappointed with Nuevo37. It was meant to be the 'hot new place' in Melbourne some months ago but didn't deliver on that promise last week. It was a Friday night and the restaurant was about 10 percent full, not a good sign. Whilst the food had some interesting twists it was really the service that left us feeling cold. The staff were very stiff, too formal and hell bent on explaining detail that was just not necessary - there was no warmth, no charisma. I fear its a result of 'hotel training' v's 'restaurant training'. On the food size the portions were very small which would have been ok had the side dishes not been so tiny - a few beans splayed out across a plate for $25 or six tiny pieces of potato to share amongst 6 people really let the whole experience down.

The consensus from our table is that the food, service and value from a lot of other Melbourne restaurants is well above Nuevo37 - which is a shame given the opportunity to deliver a great Spanish-Catalan experience.

Traditional Spanish flavours ooze from the menu courtesy of Michelin-starred Ramon Freixa as you dine riverside at Nuevo37, the flagship restaurant of the uber-sleek Hilton Melbourne South Wharf. Perhaps a sherry, jamon and cheese or a tapas plate for two – plenty to choose from to cap off a perfect day.

Barcelona comes to the Docklands with Michelin star chef Ramon Freixa. A mere $45 for two courses and a cheeky glass of wine.
