Octopus Travel are abysmal. I have a long litany of complaints from the terrible experience with them. Firstly, their back office is in the UK and all their billing comes from there so keep in mind right away you'll have a foreign exchange transaction on your credit card even though you think you're paying in Australian Dollars to an Australian company. Secondly, they can't book correctly. I have had problems with the hotel I stayed at because Octopus used the booking code for two adults no children, instead of - as we booked and they confirmed - two adults and two children. They then were rude to the hotel staff when they called to get verification. I just cannot recommend Octopus Travel at all.
I have just come back from overseas. Octopus travel booked my room on behalf of a travel agent. I travelled with 2 children - 14 and 8 year old. The first room was a tiny room with a double bed and we were expected to share. I complained bitterly at reception and thankfully they gave us a bigger room. On the way back we stopped in Hong Kong and the hotel room was an absolute insult. We were expected to share 2 tiny single beds that were pushed together. The room was just bigger than the beds with no desk or chair and a tiny cubicle with a shower and toilet. I paid $308.88 for 2 nights - if only i had booked myself i would have got a beautiful room for that money. Of course Octopus travel will not take a complaint because I booked through Shamrock travel. Shamrock travel really couldnt care less as long as they are getting their commission. I will never book through shamrock travel again and will make sure that I never book a room through Octopus either. BE AWARE !!!!
