The Original Balkan Restaurant grill in Darlinghurst was first fired up in 1964 and has been operated by the same Croatian family ever since. 

Famous for its authentic European style food, some of the special dishes that have come to hold the pride of place as the specialties of this restaurant are cevapi, raznjici, poached Tasmanian mussels, and whole Barramundi.

    I have been going to this restaurant since I was a kid. They have amazing Croatian food that you dream about. When my university class visited Australia from the US, we booked a private room for all 40+ of us on their first night in Australia and they had an amazing time! We liaised with the restaurant from the US via email to organise our menu as we had vegetarians and people with certain dietary restrictions. Usually restaurants always mess something up, but we found that when we had arrived they had done everything we requested without a problem! They served us platters of grilled meat and seafood and we all polished it off. They still talk about it today, especially the great service and the wonderful owner John. When I heard they were relocating to Crown St, I was really excited as the new venue sounds spectacular and my international guests are all planning their next visit to the restaurant! Thanks Balkan for constantly making our experience amazing!

    A bold statement but this is the only place to go in Sydney for Garlic Prawns.
    And they wont give you their secret!! I've tried asking.
