Reviews of Peak Dining

Peak Dining is part of the Iceworks complex, which has a bar (Dowse Bar), a formal restaurant (Peak Dining) and a more casual dining experience which is family friendly (Iceworks Restaurant). The whole complex was a bit of a revelation to me, having three distinct eating and drinking areas all in one space, but each felt completely separate to the others. Apparently there are apartments upstairs too. If only I could afford to live there I would be very pleased. Located at the very start of Given Terrace near Suncorp Stadium, there's a ton of parking underneath on the side street (Dowse). I started off at the Dowse Bar to unwind (you can read my review if you like), then moved on to Peak Dining with my dinner companion.

We were dining early on a Thursday, so there weren't a lot of other patrons, but I did notice as the night wore on more people. It's a large room though, so it didn't feel crowded at all. Let's start before the food. We were asked ot choose our own table, so we went for a great window seat, where you could watch Suncorp Stadium come alight or look down the side street for a greener view. The chairs were very comfortable, with traditional white tablecloth and solid feeling cutlery. Like the rest of the complex, a lot of money and thought has gone into the design, with the over head lights just the right level of brightness (I like to be able to see what I'm eating). I ordered the pan seared trout fillet and my dining companion the southern french bouillabaisse. The current menu is on their website, which is a nice touch, which allows you to have a think before you get there. We were served in a timely manner. Obviously it helped we were there early, but still...

Speaking of still, I forwent the still water and opted for the sparkling mineral water instead. It's the first time I've found myself doing this at a restaurant. Usually I drink copious amounts of normal water to cleanse my not so delicate pallete. The sparkling mineral water was quite a revelation, doing just as good a job as my normal water but without needing to drink lots of it. I recommend you give it a try sometime. My trout was superb, very fresh and melted in my mouth. The only reason I couldn't give the full five stars is I thought it could do with a touch more sauce and a touch more vegetables. I think I was comparing it to the Summit Restaurant's salmon which sits on a bed of mashed potato. It was probably just me, as my dinner companion was very happy with her main course.

One of the ways I tell a great dining experience from an adequate one is to look at my watch. If time has flown by, then I've really enjoyed myself. An hour and a half had flown by from the time we had started at the Dowse bar. Now onto dessert. We'd tried two of the three dining / drinking venues of the Iceworks comlex, so we decided to take dessert at the Iceworks Restaurant. Read on as I reveal Brisbane's best kept dessert secret!
