This has to be the best day-time cafe in Sydney. I just moved into the area when a client of mine suggested meeting at this art-deco style cafe. I was impressed to say the least. Coffee was smooth and full-flavoured (far better than what most CBD cafe's have to offer), the waitress was energetic and fun and combined with the Bircher muesli, fruit and yoghurt I enjoyed, Pen provided me with the best possible start to my day.

Compliments to the staff! Highly recommended!!!

Decor is definately on the swankyside with bright spotlights illuminating the back wall of the cafe. Wasn't very busy on the Friday lunch I dined here- The menu was simple with a selection of items by which you can have the same ingredient combinations in either a salad- or a sandwich. There are specials on the board though- with freshly cooked hot meals that are swanky resturant worthy- my friend had a warm mustard encrusted beef dish- and I was ready to ditch my salad order...
However when my poached chicken salad arrived I was plesently surprised. If you are strange like me you will appreciate that your sald comes out unmixed- instead neatly stacked piles of beetroot, Chicken slices, asparagus and lettuce are arranged impeccably on your plate.
I woudl come here again so a bit of a fancy lunch treat.

Not sure what they are trying to achieve with thier recent Salad and Sandwich bar but it is a really cumbersome process trying to get lunch here. Not only do you have to wait for ages but the service is really rude and abrupt. I used to go here everyday for lunch but now try to avoid it as much as I can.

Bar the massive sandwiches and go straight to the chocolate brownie. They are guaranteed to turn a bad day around.

The decor is better than the food, the sandwiches are great.

If you like a massive sandwich than this the place for you. Make sure your ready to fill out your form for what you want on the sandwich. But I love a cafe that has really thick slices of bread and a good variety of fillings.

Heard a lot about Pen but was really let down.
My schnitzel was inedible...chewy and full of tough leg meat.
The ordering system is too much work.
    Won;t be back

Such a professional organization they've got going. They're sandwiches are to die for. If you're gonna pay them them a visit GO FOR THE SANDWICH! And they're friendly always very important.

Top notch café food in a cool space. The beer and lunch specials are a good combo. Must love ad people, because you can't swing a brief without hitting one, most of the time.
