Probate is the process of proving and registering in the Supreme Court of Western Australia (often called 'the Probate Office') the last will of a Deceased. It is generally referred to as making an application for a Grant of Probate. After someone has died the deceased persons assets must be collected and the estate distributed according to the terms of the Will. To do this an Executor needs to apply to the Supreme Court of Western Australia Probate Registry to obtain a Grant of Probate. If no Will exists the document issued by the Probate Registry is known as Letters of Administration.
