This is a hugely popular Vietnamese restaurant, which I have been to over 20 times, have always loved and have never heard a bad word about it apart from the sometimes wait. Small tables and stools in a very small, almost cramped setting help to create a vibrant atmosphere. You are unable to book, so turn up and put your name down, then go and grab a bottle of wine to drink with your meal as it is completely BYO. The staff are happy to give you a glass to drink from before you are seated and which you can enjoy in the courtyard out the front while you wait. When you sit down you are encouraged to order almost straight away from the list of food above the counter. Pay at the counter when you order and the food will be out within 10 minutes and tastes amazing. Expect to be asked to move back out to the courtyard once you are done eating as this place turns over customers all night long. Not the sort of place you should eat at if you want to settle in, just one where you want a great atmosphere and good food.

This is one of my local favorites whether it be to eat in or get take away. they have had thier ups and downs but they eventually get it right. however I went here for dinner on Sunday night and left disappointed. I always order the shredded beef green Papya salad but this time they replaced the shredded beef with meatloaf! not really what I was expecting. phamish please bring back the shredded beef!

Definitely the place for a mid-week dinner with friends.
It's always busy and the fact that you can't book a table makes things difficult... but you never have to wait too long!
Even if you did have to wait all night, it would be worth it. The food is outstanding! The blue swimmer crab dumplings almost burnt my taste-buds off... in more ways than one! They are packed full of flavorsome tender meat and the dipping sauce just makes it even better!!
The Ragu is an amazing dish and although I don't know if it's a traditional Vietnamese dish, it's as if they've been cooking it for centuries. The meat is so tender it almost melts in your mouth!

A really relaxed atmosphere and relaxed attitude to BYO beer and wine makes it a fun place to eat. The seats can get a little uncomfortable but I'm sure this is the idea... get you in, eat and get you out. If you're after a long dinner, then this isn't for you. But if you want to meet some friends for a great, quick meal on your way home from work... I definitely recommend it!

Come for the food. But come early to avoid waiting!

If you want the best Vietnamese food in Sydney you just have to eat at Phamish. It was late Sunday afternoon and we were after an early dinner so we decided to wander down to Phamish. It was about 6.30pm and we didn't have to wait for a table so we were off to a great start. For entrees we shared the sensational crispy spring rolls and to try something different we had the crispy soft shell crab dumplings. (I can also recommend the rice paper rolls with pork and prawns - made fresh and absolutely unreal). Every dish was simply superb. For the mains we again shared. The crispy duck and prawn pancake was my favourite and the salt and pepper tofu and eggplant was also enjoyed by both of us. Phamish offers a huge range of entrees and main courses that are all reasonable priced and I haven't tried a dish yet that I didn't love. It's also BYO so you can bring and enjoy your favourite wine. If there is a long wait for a table then simply order take away (about a 10-15 minute wait) and enjoy the food at home.

Phamish is the best place to get take away Vietnamese during the week. Try the crispy spring rolls, rice paper rolls or the pancake for an entree, they cannot be beaten. The banana blossom duck salad is a favourite main or the salt and pepper tofu and eggplant. If you don't want to wait for ages for a table, like me, then it only takes them 15mins to prepare your phone order. Don't try this on Friday or Saturday nights as they are way too busy to even get through on the phone.

Has Phamish gone down or is it just me? I have been to Phamish 3 times in the last month and have noticed it is not as great as it once was. Firstly the curry was not as fragrant and it looked like the cuts of meat were cheap as were the selection of veggies. No ochre! Also the service has gone down as well and the waiter was actually quite rude. Im not ready to write Phamish off completely yet and I will give it another chance before i take it off my favourite list but I have to say I am disappointed.

I agree. I wonder in this tough economic climate if there's been cuts in the kitchen. Its still great, but wont want to slip any further...

Cool funky little place. Waiting outside can be a bit long, but adds to the expectation. hook into anything with ginger

Great funky little restaurant. You need to wait for a table, that's a given. Excellent vietnamese soups and rice paper rolls. BYO too.
