Known over the decades as a down-home bolthole for homesick Thais, the Ploy Thai banner now graces a blink-and-you'd-miss-it shopfront just shy of the Norton Street intersection. From the cramped kitchen out back, cook Achara (sister to Ann Sanpasiri, the original Ploy Thai owner) serves a strong, sour-sweet tom yum goong, bobbing with fresh mushroom halves and cherry tomatoes that pop sweetly in your mouth ($6.50). Go Thai-style with rice on the side or slurp it as a palate-prompter. Other must-orders include fried fish fillets in a thick, creamy choo chee gravy ($12.90) or the rich, but immensely good, prawn and chicken mince with sator ($12.90). These sourish cousins to the broad bean make an excellent foil to the oily, relish-like sauce - so nice on rice. The boat noodle soup (another Ploy signature dish) tastes as good as
