Light and contemporary, Plunge cafe in Summer Hill is a great place to unwind over a morning coffee or meal. The modern Australian cuisine, with Mediterranean influences is well priced, and has a range of gourmet options, from the lamb mezze plate to baked cannelloni and Afghan pizza. All day breakfast is available and includes traditional dishes, with a few twists.

Plunge has changed hands in recent months and therefore the menu has changed. They use to have my favourite cheesy omelette of asparagus and mushroom, its disappointing that they dont have it on the menu anymore. As the menu has taken on a more middle eastern flavour, they have some very tasty things on their, including a lovely light omelette with pine nuts, a taste fatoush salad and a lovely frittata. They still use good bread and that is always toasted perfectly. While there seems to be a slight change in the atmosphere (possibly some staff have changed, there was a quirky fellow I havent seen in a while) that I cant quite put my finger on, it doesnt seem to be as buzzing as it once was. The outdoor is still very pleasant to sit in, and gets the afternoon shade nicely for those warm summer days. Plunge is still a very pleasant place to go for breakfast or lunch and the service is still good and of course the coffee is still smooth and delicious!

A friend put me onto this caf Id walked past a few times but not felt drawn in. Im pleased she suggested it and have been back a couple of times since. On my first few visits we sat in the courtyard out the back, I hadnt even realised it had a courtyard when Id previously wandered past!

We were in dire need of a great big weekend breakfast on my first visit and the portion sizes certainly did not disappoint. My coffee was a good one, not great but good. The French toast tempted me but instead I had eggs with a side of haloumi (which they do with lemon) and it was a great combo.

On my most recent visit we sat inside and it was a very different vibe a much more clinical feel & less laid back. But I had the pancakes and they were really yum.

The service is good, if a little bit slow, and the courtyard is a lovely spot to while away the hours just be sure to put on some sunscreen so you dont get sun burnt!

I first became a fan of Plunge after moving to Summer Hill 3 years ago when I fell in love with their decadent French toast thick slices of fruit bread soaked in egg and syrup topped with marscapone and blueberries. Sounds too much? It was, in the best possible way. I soon moved onto their eggs which were scrambled to perfection (not too sloppy I know they are supposed to be done this way but I prefer mine a little firmer) and great sides such as haloumi. The coffee was consistently good, with the odd not so good one, depending on who was playing barista but the not so good ones were few and far between. The staff are always friendly and on one occasion, a few weeks ago, when a new waitress forgot our order, every apology was made and our coffees were given to us on the house. The furnishings are intentionally sparse but there is usually a buzzing atmosphere. With a small lounge area at the front and an outdoor area through the back. Children are welcome. It seems that in the last couple of months Plunge has changed hands, with a new, pared down menu. My favourite omelette (mushroom and asparagus) and the French toast didnt survive the menu revision (though the website is yet to reflect menu changes undergone in the last couple of years) and the choices seem to be fewer, though there are still a variety of breakfast options. The caf has been quieter the last few times Ive been there and the atmosphere under the new owners seems a little forced. I only hope that they survive the transition and continue to provide the good quality food and service that Plunge has provided in the time that Ive known them.

I apologise, Plunge do still have French toast on the menu! It is made with brioche, mixed berry compote, whipped cream and maple syrup. Am yet to try it.

place is quite busy on the weekend but the food is great. Some of the dishes have a slight twist like the eggs benedict with some beautiful tomato chutney. The service is great and the food comes out pretty quickly.

Stingy amount of cheap turkish bread to go with dip, could have done with a bag of my own bread to finish it. Salmon no good. Pear and rocket salad was just that, nothing else. Drinks were expensive for their size, could have got more for less around the corner. Ambience is non existent. Car fumes blew in. Very few customers for 1pm. Owner kept eye on staff as they worked. Won't ever return.

I've been to this place a heap a times and I've yet to have a bad meal. The big breakfast is probably one of the best I've had anywhere. The coffee is possibly the best in Sydney. Service has always been prompt and with a smile.

Loved the Spicy Chai with Soy Milk and Bruschetta. The waitress was very helpful as I decided on dessert and I was immensly happy with the caramel kiss she reccomended.

It's a busy cafe and I was lucky to get a table straight away.

    I will be back.

Went there after a few friends had recommended the place. There could be a little more of a variety on the menu, food is ok but not great and the coffee was terribly burnt.

Always busy and has the best lunch menu. Friendly service.

Food is great, but that is if you get it in good time, or even get your order! Used to be a regular Sunday breakfast patron, but after learning that our order was forgotten, and being lied to by staff (rather than apologising for forgetting our order) we have decided to go elsewhere, unless Plunge can further appease the current feeling of dissatisfaction. A little smile can also go a long way!
