Great view, pity the owner thinks it's okay to swear at customers who aren't pleased with the coffee. I have been to this cafe many times in the past few years and have often taken many friends and visitors there. While the menu was always very over-priced for what you receive I still kept going back because the overall experience was good. After today I will NEVER go back. The rudeness and aggression of the owner was unbelievable. The man is unfit to work in a service-based industry and I can only imagine how badly he would treat his staff. If you are unhappy with your coffee don't dare send it back. Will tell you to "f**k off, get out and don't come back" and still demand that you pay for a coffee you barely even sipped. Nothing was offered in return, no apology, nothing. I asked for an ice coffee on soy milk (can't drink regular milk) and the owner aggressively insisted that it was my own fault the coffee was bad because I asked for soy milk. Well, after being told to "f**k off, get out and don't come back" we still paid $17.50 for 2 beverages and tried to leave in a dignified manner. All that disgusting behaviour over 1 bad coffee. Until this business changes ownership, or until the owner is re-trained in basic manners and customer service I will never go back. Montville is a lovely spot with many other wonderful eateries. Spend your money elsewhere.

I visited this table serviced restaurant for an afternoon hot drink and dessert with my family. There is on street parking, which is free, but it can get busy during the holidays. Bills can be split, but you may have trouble with getting tables for large groups of more than 8.

I had a hot chocolate, with marshmallow, extra milk and a large sticky date cookie. I also bought a lemon merengue pie to go and this cost me $20.00 all up. It is expensive, as you are paying for the view in a lovely timber building with Victorian features. You will notice paintings of famous poets like Banjo Patterson and Henry Lawson and the lovely stain glassed windows.

The staff were friendly and the service was timely. We all enjoyed our drinks and cookies.

My friend and I ordered two Tasmanian Rib Fillet sandwiches at $25.90 each. Unfortunately the steak was dreadful, quite the worst I have ever had even in the $12 variety steak sandwiches. The bun was not toasted properly and was soggy etc etc. My friend was embarassed and did not want to cause a scene by returning the meals so at the end of the meal while he visited the little boys room I spoke with the staff and they took the plates containing all the gristle and hard fat to the kitchen to examine. I then said I would phone the next day, which I did, and the day after and the day after. Finally I spoke with the management who thought their steak sandwich could not possibly cost $25.90 each and was not interested in remedying the situation - I was exaggerating and they did not believe just how bad the food was - they were in fact quite rude. What a shame, the ambience is quite lovely but there are dozens of great places to eat in Montville and I will be frequented them and not The Poet's Cafe in the future.

Lovely place - I have been here a couple of times and both times were pleasant. Food and coffee are delicious, staff are always friendly and helpful and the view is beautiful. Will be back again next time I'm up there.
