A really great atmosphere is created here. There are options too - I came for dinner, when diners can either sit inside at their own table, or outside in a shared "communal" table - that's a great move, to offer both options. Service is really lovely, everyone is great, professional and efficient, so there is no unnecessary waiting around. I enjoyed the most tender of Sichuan Scallops for entree, then a beautifully cooked fillet of Salmon with Tiger Prawns, Squid Ink and Asparagus ... aaahhh, every mouthful was an utter delight. I had a side of a Iceberg Lettuce with tomato vinaigrette - also very good, but the dressing does make the lettuce look rusty, even though I knew it wasn't. I had a glass of Symphonia Pinot Grigio. A lovely meal. It's great to be able to see the open kitchen at work too. Very enjoyable experience.
  • Went here with a group of people and was sat on the balcony. The food was terrific and the atmosphere great all night.
My parents came from overseas a few weeks later and I had no doubt where to take them in the rocks. There is nothing touristy about this place; just a great restaurant in a fabulous location.
  • I've been here twice in the past month and both times my experience has been great. I would highly recommend this restaurant as the perfect place for a date or a night out with friends. Absolutely a spot where I'll take guests from out of town too. The location and ambiance is just so impressive. The first time we went here was on a Friday night and without reservations, we did wait quite a while to be seated. No one minded since we were lead to the small outdoor bar area and promptly decided to buy a bottle of wine. When we were seated it was outdoors at the long table and I loved this style of seating. Although there were strangers all around us, the seating is ample enough to not feel invasive and the vibe is very trendy and fun. I split the Spinach & Potato Gnocchi and the Pumpkin Ravioli with a friend while the boys each ordered the Grain Fed Sirloin. All the dishes were delicious and the steaks were cooked perfectly, although I must admit the Gnocchi was my personal favorite. Our second visit to Pony was on a Wed night and again it was buzzing with people. We gave our names to the hostess and were again lead to the bar area where we (surprise, surprise) ordered a bottle of wine. The wait was a bit longer than expected but the hostess graciously brought over some complimentary olive and almond small plates, which was a nice touch. Once we were seated inside, we decided on the Scotch Fillet and the Lamb. Both were perfect. The royal blue potatoes and broccolini sides were equally as mouthwatering. Both times our service was exceptional, we never had a glass half empty (of water or wine). Be prepared to spend a pretty penny as Pony is not inexpensive but truth be told, it's absolutely worth the cost.

We came here for dinner with the other night, and the place was buzzing (it was a public holiday). The decor was very nice (both indoor and outdoor) and they have an open kitchen (completely open from all sides) which gave the place a nice casual feel.

We had a 7pm booking and when we arrived we were told to wait at the bar while our table was being prepared and that it would be ready in a couple of minutes. It wasnt until 7:25 or so that we actually got to our table, and then it took another 25 minutes or so before a waiter took our order. The overall service itself was quite disappointing, and when we wanted to ask for the bill, the waiters/waitresses would keep walking past our table, avoiding all eye contact. Bear in mind, it was a public holiday and they were probably understaffed.

On to food, and this was such a contrast to the service. The menu selection was quite impressive, with a range of small plates, entrees, mains, food from the grill and I think our eyes were definitely too big for our stomach!

To start, we ordered three share plates and an entree to share the raw kingfish salad and the best gnocchi Ive ever had are a must. For our mains, we ordered the pork cutlet and the scotch fillet. The steak was really juicy and tender and definitely recommended to those looking for a good meat dish. To finish up I had the chocolate tart, and my wife ordered the passionfruit creme brulee. The crme brulee is a must and is one of the best brulees we have both had.

Apart from the service, the food and the decor are big ticks in my book and I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice special (but also casual) place to eat.
  • Last night (24/09/08) we were a party of 8, seated on the balcony long table which was atmospheric and fun.
Great food - between us all we tried about half of the "small plates" (local take on tapas-style entrees or snacks) and a wide selection from the rest of the menu. Good wine list to accompany the good food.
Only downside was our waiter seemed to be struggling just a wee bit and we were frequently left with empty wine and water glasses which needed a little more attention.
We enjoyed ourselves happily give a big :-) for the team at Pony.

Want to take a client to a place that's a bit 'funkier' than your average restaurant - then head to the Pony Club! Famous for their open grill kitchen and decor that resembles a Texan ranch. Once seated we were treated to complementary salted hot nuts and olives. The menu was lovely - and our waitress remembered mains and entrees for our entire party of eight! I had the Ocean Trout as a main with side salad - and it was a very lovely 8/10 - though I am told that anything from 'the grill' is what they are best known for. And by the look of the steaks - I'd have to agree!
