Yarra Pedestrian Footbridge, Elizabeth St MELBOURNE, VIC, 3000 Under the footbridge in the middle of the Yarra River between Southbank and Flinders Street Station
I was in Melbourne last weekend and discovered Ponyfish Island when in Southbank. It's in a great location right in the middle of the Yarra River under the footbridge. The floods had just occurred in Melb the day prior and Ponyfish was high and dry which was a good thing - this bar/coffee place is very Melbourne, a bit grungy, not overly slick but that's part of its charm. It's like you've discovered a quiet little place of your own surrounded by water, but I doubt it will be a secret for long. The team behind the counter are friendly, the coffee is good and it's nice to sit in the sun sipping a latte and watching the water - I'd like to go back for drinks at night with some friends, I think the place would be pumping. Oh and its open to 1.00 a.m. so could be a good place to drop in post dinner for an ale. Definitely recommend, but don't expect cocktails and super slick surroundings - think more uni-student/artist.
