Went with friends, we had the banquet, so much food. Would recommend it as a place to go as a group not a couple. Our night was one of those that kept going and going, no one was in a hurry to leave. I think it was a combination of the food and good service in a different surrounding.

    Flaming Coconuts!
Didn't eat here but the food looked good! Instead my friends and I went downstairs to the bar to get some drinks. All the drinks sounded great, with pretty fun names such as "Thai me up, Thai me down Sangria", "Dr Phils Famous Flaming Rum Punch" or the drink I tried- "Flaming Lemon & Ginger Pina Colada" which comes in a coconut and is subsequently set alight. Interesting decor creates a quirky atmosphere such as an in-the-wall fish tank with a picture frame border.
The music isn't too loud here either so you can actually have a conversation without shouting over the music.
    Loved it!

We had a great time at Rambutan. It was a Friday night and we started downstairs in the bar with some very nice Thai inspired cocktails. We had an 8.00 pm booking but it was around 8.45 before we were seated upstairs. At the table they provided us with complimentary betel leaves because of the wait. A really nice touch and any annoyance of having to wait melted away as they were a delicious way to kick off the meal and showed the staff and management really care.
As a party of four we shared the entrees of vegetarian curry puffs (very good), the steamed dumplings (deivine) and salt and pepper squid (nice, but out shone by the other two).
We followed it up with waguy beef and flat noodle, crispy duck, dry red curry of roasted pork belly and massaman curry of lamb, each of them a hit on their own but a true delight to share.

The place was super busy but the service was excellent. From the apology for being seated so late through to the waiter who was attentive, knowledgeable and just familiar enough to be our new best friend on the night you couldnt fault it.

If you love thai food (which means youve probably eaten at Longrain one time too many) youll love Rambutan. It has a real Thai feel, I can highly recommend it, just dont be in too much of a hurry to be seated. My advice just be ready to go with the flow and enjoy the great food and service.

I think its the frame of mind you head into an experience with that sets the scene. Id just had a massage and was still smiling from it when I walked into Rambutan. Id never heard of it before stepping through the door, the long centre table and intimate lighting greeted me with a somewhat similar feeling to a friends dinner party.

Our waiter Kiahn was such a great addition to the evening that I recommend you ask for him by name. To give you an idea of how great this guy is the table next to us were having one of the desserts and when asked about a key ingredient, he drew a map of where to get the best ones and drew a picture to indicate the best shape of the fruit.

The wines that were recommended to accompany out duck and mushroom dishes were fantastic and the dishes were lovely. The entree special was a salmon and kingfish fishcake combo which was dribbled in a perfect sauce. Highly recommended.

Fine cuisine - attended recently for a b'day party in the downstairs cocktail bar with a banquet - easily the best food i have tasted in a longggggg time. Try the wagyu beef - to die for. and the prawns were absolute pefection.

Place smells really good - like being in thailand

the bar staff are very professional some of the most highly attentive ive come across - great lighting for a nice atmosphere and superb upperclass dining experience.

highly recommended - take a serious date here to impress.

only downside is they took a while to bring the food out

I've walked past this place every day for about a year and never even noticed it. But my boyfriend clients recommended it so we went there for dinner and I'm so glad I found it!

The service, food and cocktails were amazing. There is an underground bar which you can't see from oxford street.

The duck main is fantastic - and make sure you try to apple martini.

Was very busy when we were there on Sat night so best to make a booking - even then we had to wait 30 mins for our table - but once we were seated we ordered in 5 mins and food came out straight away.

    Very impressed.

This restaurant has great food and service, but can be very noisy, so not great for conversation over dinner. The bar downstairs is a gem though. Quiet, intimate and funky. Brilliant wait staff, fantastic service, yummy Thai style bar food and a mesmerising aquarium in the wall. Great atmosphere.

The decor here is impressive, as was the service. Very attentive all night. The food was good, but not exceptional. We shared the mains of lamb massman, beef cheeks and lamb shanks. The beef was very tender, though was lacking in flavour, while the curry could have been creamier. But overall anvexcellent spot...and the cocktails ..yum

Retreat to a little oasis of Tropicana: Southern Thai flavours meet South Pacific floral fun at Rambutan. Upstairs a restaurant and downstairs a lush list of cocktails and a genius ‘tasting menu’. Watch the tropical fish in the seawater aquarium and try the tasty tea-smoked quail with roast garlic and black pepper sauce or the delicate pla dib of kingfish and salmon sashimi with lemongrass and kaffir lime nahm jim. It’s positively Tiki and a lot of fun.

Thai flavours and South Pacific chic ooze from this new Oxford Street establishment.

I always wished Sydney had a tiki bar, one of those tropical-themed drinking dens filled with bamboo, wooden masks, hula skirts and mini cocktail umbrellas. Now we have something even better: Rambutan, a new Thai restaurant and bar on Oxford Street. Admittedly it's more elegant than any tiki bar I've ever seen, thanks to its bamboo-patterned Florence Broadhurst wallpaper and jungle-themed designer cushions and lampshades. But it still has that tiki vibe, especially in the downstairs cocktail bar. Here among the wild ferns and seawater aquarium you can order the curiously named "Flaming ginger and lemon pina colada i scream", and in true tiki style have it delivered in a large beheaded coconut with a rum-filled lime half set on fire.
