This place is incredibly over priced considering their definition of authentic Sichuan food is to add more onion and chili. I appreciate chili is in their name, but that doesn't mean it should be 30% of the dish and smother the taste.
There use to be a similar Red Chili in Ultimo, which I reviewed in the same manner and not surprisingly closed down. I have never been to China ~ so I can't say what is true Sichuan is, but I can tell you what I like and I don't like this!
Dcor is this over the top from tip to toe, and is probably the reason why they feel they can add so much $$ to the bill. As for the food the vegetables were watery and tasteless. I can't even remember the other mains, just remember that they looked nothing like the elaborate menu's (another reason to charge more) and more importantly they were absolutely tiny. I really feel that every person (male or female) would have to order a minimum entre and TWO mains, plus drinks and dessert to feel remotely fed. We didn't and left hungry.
Small portions, expensive Sichuan food which is Chinese food + lots of chilli and pretty average service. The decor is a strange modern version of a traditional tea house. I found it really hard to believe that there are more Red Chilli's around Sydney- it seems to be a semi franchise. We were warming greeted at the entrance but then proceeded to wait a few minutes while I waited for them to see if there was a table available as we hadn't made a booking. When we walked inside there were at least 4 tables free- which made me wonder what the wait was for. My hopes were high as there were many chinese people eating there which is usually a good indication of the authenticity of the food. The egg yoke prawns were a bit too oily, the salted chicken looked a lot bigger in the photo on the menu and the boy choy & mushrooms were average. Overall our meal cost $95 for 3 dishes and rice. a little be overpriced fro the small portions. As my mum said- a "two time experience, first time and last".
