Red Door puts the Cha in Yum Cha. My girlfriend has been dying to check this place out for ages, particularly given its her local. The decor is authentically fitting, we walked in like school children, skipping our way to our seats - as the 'to be noticed waiter' escorted us to our private lounge booth.

The menu boasts a variety of seafood and 'other' dumplings, comes in 3x per serve. We had the prawn & crab meat and the prawn & bean curd wrap, both absolutely amazing. Pork buns, yep it felt like we had escaped to heaven for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

We did have to ask for chilli on the side & to top up the soy, and the service could do with a bit of a tidy up - but there was nothing there that would stop me going back each visit to Melbs.

And...there's one waiter of the management sort that is about as delicious as the Shanghai Dumpling itself.

Few places have so seamlessly blended cafe and business.

JUDGING by my weekly diet of 3AW ads, it's very important to have a cafe when you are selling cars. In fact, a cafe seems also a prerequisite if you want to sell anything these days. Houses, furniture, art, a wax and polish for your motor, a $1000 customised T-shirt. Heck even fast food restaurants have been putting in cafes so you can get something to eat but few places have so seamlessly blended cafe and business as Red Door in Windsor. The floor stock at this Chinese antiques and furniture shop are also the tables and chairs you will sit at to eat - all tagged and priced accordingly. Five times a week for lunch they serve yum cha in a space that is basically an old concrete-walled warehouse. Yet, filled with the red and black lacquered furniture, the ceiling festooned with lanterns that look like white cherries, it's a far cry from the usual suburban Chinese. It would just be a gimmick if the quality of the food on offer wasn't generally so good - despite the absence of ...
