Not bad. Casual atmosphere, friendly staff. Nice place to have drinks with friends on a sunday afternoon.

It's either hit or a total miss with every trip to The Retreat. Be warned the vegie curry is not actually vegetarian (contains fish sauce). Regardless, the Coopers on tap keeps me returning. This pub is surprisingly quiet during the day and good for a cheerful lunch or casual pint, but becomes frenetically rowdy on weekend evenings.

The burgers here are excellent, and the crowd isn't too "cool" despite the area booming. A fun relaxed, down-to-earth place. One of my favourites.

This pub/bar offers a great beer garden for afternoon drinking, a dance floor for the party people, a pool table for those who prefer to chill out, and small, sectioned off front bar, offering a more intimate bar environment, and regular live music on offer. Pub meals for lunch and dinner, plus a BBQ out in the beer garden for late night munchies that are way more satisfying than peanuts!

Great pub with lots of the good old sticky carpet appeal. Plenty of great live local music, one of the most comfy beer gardens in Melbourne, great drink prices and great pub meals to satisfy the taste buds and the hip-pocket. Best pub in Brunswick.

Unlike many watering holes, this Brunswick favourite understands that “beer garden” does not mean “outdoor patch of concrete just big enough to shove a rickety old table into”. Here, in the middle of Sydney Rd’s super-urban bustle, lies a tranquil backyard replete with long wooden tables, heated nooks and a picnic lawn ripe for sprawling. The Retreat’s been kicking on for over a century, but that doesn’t mean you should dawdle in making your way down there.
