Hideki Okazaki, head chef of Darlinghurst's 'Rise' restaurant, has combined the best of East and Western cooking to combine a fantastically creative Japanese fusion menu for his loyal customers.

It's hard to miss 'Rise', with a vibrant red door, brilliant blue exterior and huge glass windows it is a feature of Craigend St, and just a short three minute walk away from the always alive Kings Cross. Okazaki never creates bland meals, steering away from the overdone approach that many have to sushi.

Be sure to stop by on Tuesday, Wednesday or Sunday as there is a thirty percent discount on the degustation. Perfect venue for your next big function, cocktail party or quiet night out for two. Book tonight!

Sydney's best-value degustation menu is poetry for the palate.

It has taken 20 years but finally I am sitting at the Power Table in Chez Oz - in the corner furthest from the door, with a view out the window and across the entire room. The trouble is, it doesn't matter any more. Chez Oz has been replaced by Rise. The young, black-clad Japanese waiters have no idea where any customer might fit on the status ladder and no assumption that one table is more important than another. How un-Sydney. Back in the greed-is-good decade, Chez Oz was the place to be seen if you considered yourself a top person in fashion, business or advertising - the equivalent of today's Otto or Machiavelli. The front room was Paradise, the back room was Siberia. And a table by the window in Paradise meant one could look down on the hacks who had been grudgingly given a table by the door so they could write about the celebrities they'd spotted. If you have champagne tastes on a beer budget this is one little place that will get you in the mood. The quiet Japanese fusion restaurant hidden on a dark Darlo side street never disappoints. Visit Tuesday, Wednesday or Sunday and get the full degustation experience with seven courses for only $45. The food is imaginative and always includes the freshest sashimi and an inspired seasonal plate. Prepared to be surprised: it’s east-meets-west food philosophy, soft candlelight and white linens. If money’s no object go crazy on the great cocktails and sake.
