Unbeatable views and fabulous food don't make up for WAY less than average service. I took a table of 6 others, one being from overseas, to The River Cafe on a week night earlier this month and was downright embarrassed at the incredibly slack service. I've eaten here and attended corporate functions a number of times before, but there is no way I'll be going back any time soon.
Came back here a few nights ago for a work dinner. My boss left it up to me to pick a place to celebrate 9yrs of her business, and I chose this place. Why? Because its modern and classy without being over the top, splendidly located and the food is delicious (just as I said in my previous post). Ive been here a few weeks before and I really liked it, so I knew that it wouldnt disappoint (and I would get props for picking out something good oh the pressure! Hehe) There was a little accident that happened at the start of that night (wine accidently knocked over by the waitress on the table) but she quickly cleaned and covered it up and apologized with a new glass of wine on the house when my work colleague was ready for one. It was all ok, no big deal We all got a glass each (7 of us) of complementary Port from Nick (maybe hes the manager?) which was nice of them. The food once again for me was wonderful and I think I could speak for everyone (because the plates were clean!) that they all enjoyed as well! The serving sizes are very generous but we still had to go for dessert. I ordered the Parfait and Oh my gosh! Mouth-watering! Took a spoonful of the Orange Creme Brulee from the person seated next to me and that was delightful! Once again, I definitely plan to come back there, and have already told my friends who enjoy eating out as much as I do.. to order the Parfait!! And the Pork main! Also took a taste of the snapper from my colleague and that too was tasty! Really must try it here if you havent been!
I've been to the River Cafe many times now and I love going there. Its a modern, classy atmosphere, a delicious menu and good service. I keep craving their stuffed olive entree! Already planning my next visit :)
It was my first time eating there last Saturday, and it was lovely. It was more Restaurant than i would say Cafe.. as the dining experience and view were great! Its Casual, but also Elegant. The waiters were v.good also. Was there for a friends birthday dinner and the foods everyone ordered looked delicious and no one had any complaints, neither did I. My partner ordered the TBone and he polished off his plate! I had the Pork Ragu and that was delicious!! Definitely go back there again. Would love to try the Roast Suckling Pig, i love pork dishes especially the cracklings!
We went to the River Cafe for our work Christmas lunch so we were a large group (more than 20 people). Despite the restaurant being full the service was excellent - meals came out in a reasonable manner and we were continuously offered drinks. The set menu catered for everyone and the food was delicious. Disaster didn't strike until it was time to pay the bill. It's always tricky with large groups but we couldn't understand why we were so short until we realised that we had been charged for four people that hadn't shown up (but that we had previously advised weren't coming). When we advised the restaurant they argued that as they'd catered for those four people it was their policy to charge for them (this "policy" was never mentioned in the conversations and I can't find it anywhere on their website - only a mention of losing the deposit which we were fully prepared to do). After several minutes of arguments he went searching for the booking form that we were apparently meant to have signed (but had never seen). When he couldn't find the form he tried to split the difference - more arguing - before he finally decided to charge us only for the people that attended. We then paid the food bill and the three separate drink bills that we'd been presented with and left. I thought the matter was finished until I received a call from two of our party that had stayed for a few drinks. They were in the car park when a staff member followed them out and presented them with a bill for $700 and claimed that we had not paid our food bill!! After several minutes of discussion regarding the amount of money handed over the conversation ended with "I'll check the register and if there are any problems I'll give you a ring". So, unfortunately, a pleasant team Christmas dining experience was spoilt.
